Editorial Reviews

Great film about unrequited love and the love of another peoples history and culture. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I'm not a huge fan of the Indian god Hanuman, but happen to be a huge fan of the Chinese god/legend of Sun Wu'Kong, the Monkey King from the famous 100 chapter long The Journey to the West(Xi You Ji). Both are very similar, but the Chinese version being more powerful and marvelous. I loved the location shots and the scenes involving the monkeys. The film does has a very powerful message about honoring the history of ones culture and anothers while still being able to love. I really enjoyed the action sequences, the story moved at a brisk pace, and the score was amazing. The male lead and his Indian paramour were very believable as former flames who rekindle their childhood romance. I wish this film would receive a wider release, perhaps on DVD or at an arthouse. I watched this film on VCD and would recommend seeing it to anyone interested in the beauty of India, the marvelous monkeys, the great cinematography and the elusive Monkey God, Hanuman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hanuman Lives!!, April 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hanuman (French English Version) (DVD)
Welcome to the 'Kingdom of Hanuman' the beloved Monkey-God of India! Beautifully filmed on location in India, this is an absolutely perfect film that will be loved by the whole family. There's something here for everyone, it's beautiful to watch, well paced and exciting at times, topped off with a touch of bittersweet romance. All this and lots of monkeys too! These elements are subtly interconnected by a thread of Hindu mysticism and spirituality which provides an added dimension of depth and maturity for the adult audience. Truly "All Is One."

4.0 out of 5 stars A Decent and Fun Film for the Family, October 4, 2011
This review is from: Hanuman (DVD)
If kids in North America could see this, I'm sure they'd be delighted with all of the leaps and antics made by the monkeys. The editors were very clever in managing to narrate a story around them. The scenery, among ancient ruins in the countryside of India, is as impressive as watching scenes from Baraka and as nourishing as scenes from The Gods Must Be Crazy.
