Another Stellar Release From Alto Saxophonist/Composer Gigi Gryce,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hap'Nin's (Audio CD)
Gigi Gryce's mysterious disappearance in the early '60 was quite unusual, but this saxophonist/composer left behind some remarkable work. "The Hap'nin's" is one fine example of Gryce's hard bop writing. His quintet is comprised of Richard Williams on trumpet (a VERY underrated player), Richard Wyands on piano, Julien Euell on bass, and Mickey Roker on drums. The music is a very fine example of hard bop and shows just how great of a composer Gigi Gryce was. Gryce also was a talented arranger for large ensembles. It's a shame there's more of his work available. This album is now out-of-print and I don't see it coming back anytime soon. I'm glad I bought all of his recordings at the right time.
