It helps them understand how the body works and see the baby growing.

Her brother is now at the age where he can begin to enjoy the puzzle and his sister is able to put it together herself.

The recommended age on this is 4 years old but is great discussion tool for a younger child.

Our kids (2 and 4.5) love the Beleduc layer girl, and even the 2 year old learned to reassemble it quite quickly. Then we ordered this one too and found it to be quite a bit more challenging. In particular, you often have to infer which pieces go together from the mother's clothing, whereas for the basic anatomy puzzles you always have a body-structure cue (i.e., this is the muscle layer). Our 4.5 year old girl can just do Mother Layer, but the 2 year old can't quite yet. So if you have younger kids you might get the girl/boy puzzle first. Otherwise we love these products because they kids eagerly learn how to name different body parts and are fascinated by the three-dimensionality.

We have four children whose moms are pregnant this year. Our Montessori class is a multi-age class (3 to 6 years olds) in the same classroom. The children loved the stages of pregnancy the puzzle presented. I made a little booklet to go with the puzzle stages that I present to them as I give the lesson. They compare their moms' pregnancy to the puzzle. They can see how the baby grows inside the moms. A great teaching tool! We also have the boy and girl puzzles for our anatomy lessons. I would recommend all three puzzles for any classroom.

My 27-month old and I work on this everynight as part of our routine...she is really starting to understand that the "baby-in-Mommy's-belly" will "come out" soon...We love it! She is too young to complete all the levels alone, but it makes it more fun to do it together...while we still can!

Got this for my 20month old to illustrate the idea of the "baby in Mommy's tummy". It's a beautiful puzzle that educates at many levels. I can adapt it to my 20month old's current abilities and use it throughout the last few months of pregnancy. It has helped his comprehension of what is going on and what will happen.

I did have to make some modifications... changed the color of the mommy's hair from blond to brunette.

I bought this for my daughter when I was pregnant. At the time she was only 2 and I was starting to show. The recommended age on this is 4 years old but is great discussion tool for a younger child. I think 2 was the perfect age to start using this. Although, if your child is one that puts a lot in their mouth, make sure to only used it supervised because a couple of the pieces are smaller.

My daughter really enjoyed it and we would play with the puzzle and discuss her upcoming baby sister. While she doesn't have the coordination to put this puzzle together by herself yet we would work on it together and now at a few months shy of 3 she is almost able to accomplish it.

Now that the baby is here we still work on this puzzle and without me saying anything she named the baby in the puzzle the name of her baby sister. Having this really gave me a great tool to help her understand what was going on.

The quality is also excellent and this puzzle is one that should last through multiple kids.

This puzzle is wonderful. My 2.5 year old daughter could put it together quickly with only minimal assistance. I bought it during my second pregnancy to show my daughter how the baby grows. Wonderful gift for expectant mothers who have other young children!

My 2.5 year old can whiz through the boy and girl version of this toy. She is fascinated by the organs and muscles and bones in those versions, and because of those puzzles can now name most of her major bones, all of her organs and a general description of what they do (Dad and I are medical professionals ). They made these mysterious inner parts very matter of fact and real for her. This momma one, however, is trickier to put together for her, because as another person pointed out, you have to use the outfits to put the layers together while assembling this one, and she gets frustrated with it. I wish that each layer had a different colored background, to help with this. We just assemble it together, and have had MANY animated discussions with her while doing this about the growing baby. She LOVES discussing the idea of puppies, kittens, calves, and foals growing in their mommies the same way that human babies grow ( "and baby squirrels to", she will alway remind us.) Thank you, Hape, for the very useful learning tool! She sees pregnant mommas every time we go to the store, or out into the community, and many of her classmates and friends have new siblings, and this toy has helped matter-of-factly illustrate to her what's going on. I wish Hape would make a pregnant horse, dog, cat or even a squirrel one! LOL. We would buy them!!

I bought this puzzle three years ago for my then 2.5 year old daughter when I was pregnant with her brother. Because she was so young, I found the visuals of the puzzles helpful for showing her what was going on inside of my body. This is a challenging puzzle to put together because you have to judge by the clothes, so a toddler can't do it alone, but that does not decrease its educational value. Her brother is now at the age where he can begin to enjoy the puzzle and his sister is able to put it together herself. There are a lot of pieces, so this is not a puzzle you can give a toddler or a puzzle beginner and have them do it alone, but it is an opportunity to open conversation as you play together.
