Book Description

When Jackie took her little sister, Karen, for a joy ride into Necropolis without telling her where they were really going, she only meant to have a good time. Give her a little scare. A desolate shell of its former self, Sin City still holds a certain temptation for those who like to gamble. But when the residents of the city awaken, what happens in Vegas... well, you know the rest.

"Wilson is a dark force to be reckoned with."--Trent Zelazny, author of Destination Unknown and Fractal Despondency

What Happens in Vegas... is a fast-paced short story set in the Empire of Blood series. The critically-acclaimed first novel from the series, Shining in Crimson: Empire of Blood Book One, is currently available to read for free in the Kindle Owners Lending Library.

Praise for Shining in Crimson:

"A big-scale vampire thriller that changes the rules."--Scott Nicholson, author of Liquid Fear, The Red Church, and They Hunger

"One of the best surprises I've had in a long while. Writing with a smart, self-assured ease, Robert S. Wilson has given us a gift with Shining in Crimson. Part Underworld, part Escape From New York, Shining in Crimson is genuinely frightening, genuinely thrilling, but above all, first-rate storytelling. I'm a Robert S. Wilson fan from now on!"--Joe McKinney, author of Flesh Eaters and Apocalypse of the Dead

"Robert S. Wilson shows a lot of promise here with this debut novel. Now it's time to see where that promise will take him."--Ray Wallace, The Chiaroscuro

"You'll not find some glistening torsos and smouldering eyes in this book. What you will find is a brilliantly thought out society of Vampires."--Jim Mcleod, Ginger Nuts of Horror

"The Mesh of Religious symbolism and political commentary tucked neatly between pure horror and suspense is superb."--Lisa Lane, The Cerebral Writer

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah, It Stays There November 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I started reading this book with anticipation. I had read Shining in Crimson: Empire of Blood Book One and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This story takes place in the same vein as SiC. It's about two sisters, Jakie and Karen. Jakie decides to take Karen for a drive, but it's a surprise. The surprise turns out to be on Jakie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everytime I go to Vegas... March 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm glad this doesn't happen to me. Very well written story of two sisters taking a road trip to what used to be Vegas. Dark and eerie with a nice punch of emotion and some good social commentary. I had a really good time reading this one. Wilson is a dark force to be reckoned with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good story January 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this short in one sitting, and found it to be well-written and well-plotted.
The characters are believable, and the dialogue is crisp and realistic. The suspension of disbelief is easy to reach, considering the world this is set in.
I'm very interested in reading Shining in Crimson, the novel that this short story is set around.Shining in Crimson: Empire of Blood Book One
Check it out for the small price it costs, and you will likely not regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was very happy with the ending March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is not very often that I think the characters I don't like really get whats coming to them. It is nice to read a story where that happens. I found myself really disliking Jackie by the middle of the story. Wow, was I happy with the way she got her's in the end! Its worth it just for that and I am so looking forward to more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable short story January 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A good prelude to the Shining in Crimson novel, but don't expect it to be about the same topic. Think of it more as a separate story told in the same world.

Two sisters go out to visit Necropolis, formally Vegas. The oldest just plans to scare her little sister and maybe find some valuable old currency. They should be in and out before nightfall, or so they thought.

This is a good short story that is fairly well written. It is certainly enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horror at it's best January 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a creepy and disturbing work of art. I really enjoyed the post apocalyptic world of Necropolis nee Las Vegas that Wilson created. It was eerie to read about this world he whipped up full of vampires that reminded me in a way of Richard Matheson's monsters, until we met the sentient one. I can't wait to read it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool May 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was super impressed by the originality of this story. I liked the characters. For a short piece, they were developed really well. I am generally not a huge fan of the vampire genre, but this twist was really interesting. I'll definitely give his other work a read.

Too short! I like the premise and the characters seemed well-considered for the length, but I seriously finished this whole story in under an hour.
