My husband and I would marry Dr. Karp if we could! Our 5 week old daughter seemed to NEVER sleep and the nurse at the hospital taught us to swaddle our newborn with her arms out. We had the Swaddle Me wrap, but didn't use it. We were sleep deprived and desperate for help. My sister bought us the DVD and CD and Dr. Karp seemed like a crazy person, but at that point, we were willing to listen to anyone if it meant our daughter would stop screaming. That Sunday night, my husband tried the "5 S's" and it worked within 5 minutes. Within a week, our daughter had gone from sleeping in 30 minute increments and screeching all night, to sleeping 3-4 hours. At 2 months, she was sleeping 6-7 hours a night. She's almost 5 months old now and we have NEVER had another all-night screaming session since we learned Dr. Karp's method. If I sound like a brainwashed freak, that's okay. I'm a well-rested brainwashed freak with a happy baby!

I actually bought this for a friend's baby shower. My kid literally cried 10 hours a day every day his first 3 months - and then we found this and the insane crying stopped immediately! When we first watched it, we thought the tricks were kind of crazy - but they totally worked!!!!! So, now I buy this for other new mom's for their baby showers - 'cause this saved my life!!!!!!!

This product saved my friend's sanity after the birth of her very fussy daughter. The CD of sounds soothed her daughter and frequently put her to sleep. She swears by it. It is similar to a tape that i made when my 19 yr old daughter was born. I had taped 15 minutes each of white sounds like the clothes dryer, the lawn mower, the vacuum sweeper, etc.... It is supposed to simulate the background sounds of the womb.

Less fussing from the newborn, more sleep for mom & dad. Simple. Logical. It works. And oddly, the louder we played the white noise, the more effective it was. Gentle volume didn't work.

This a product for people who have no experience with babies, and do not plan on attending any baby care classes before they have a child.

The book really did not tell me anything I did not already know, and it is a little pricey for this type of book.

There are many free resources on the Internet that I found much more useful than this book.

The DVD is very informative for ay new parents and the CD of sounds has been a great soother for our lil guy.

I'm just reviewing the video. I bought the package with the CD for a friend, but I own the video myself, and it was incredibly helpful. It's a bit hokey, dragging out information that could be relayed in about 5 minutes. But that probably does help pound it into your head, which is important when you are dealing with a screaming newborn and getting no sleep. Any hokey or not, it works - at least for us. I now have 3 kids and I've used the techniques on all of them. If you know someone else who owns the video, they can probably teach you everything themselves in a few minutes, but again - it never hurts to have it pounded in so that it can be recalled on sleepless nights.

Our baby was so fussy for the first month of his life. We couldn't get him to sleep without laying on my chest, etc. Then we watched this video. Within an hour of watching we had him asleep and that night he slept for four hours in one stretch. Amazing.

We only watched the video and it was enough. Sooo helpful. I have a couple of friends who have benefited from the book. I was skeptical at first, but the suggestions from the video really worked for us.

We purchased this DVD as a gift, but were given the DVD as a gift when our son was born. It was very helpful to actually see what was described in the book. The shushing and swaddling were very helpful to see. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone with a newborn.

My newborn needs me right now, but I just wanted to say Buy this set! For swaddling I would suggest the Halo swaddler with the Big velcro, makes swaddling a lot easier. Dr. Karp's techniques really work!
