5.0 out of 5 stars A dark, shimmering jewel
This 2CD compiles the three hard-to-find or out-of-print Joan of Arc trilogy EPs. There are also 4 "new" songs from a fourth never-released EP. This is music for New Order, Smiths, Pet Shop Boys, The Cure and Morrissey fans of all ages who are still 17 at heart. Few contemporary bands can touch me as dearly as The Faves. There's a nice review and bio of the...

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fabulous CD!, January 19, 2004

Why aren't these people more famous? This is the best CD I've heard since their last full-length one released in 1999. With immediately infectious hooks and incredibly poignant lyrics, this CD is destined to be a classic. As a bonus, an additional disk of amazing remixes is included.

......before they hit the big time and are no longer a cult band. Don't say I didn't warn you. Songwriting and arrangements are top notch, and Andrea Vaughn's voice will melt your heart. Highlights: Burning Hearts, Homeless Club Kids, Happiest Days of My Life.

It's fantastic that this CD set is still available. A masterful work of pop craft. If you knew about them the first time around, there's no excuse not to buy this gem. If you're just now discovering them, you have every reason to get the bit of magic. And now with the release of My Favorite's updated alter ego, The Secret History, you can enjoy this great sound even more with the new The World That Never Was release. World That Never Was

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious, November 22, 2004
This review is from: Happiest Days of Our Lives (Audio CD)
I am so happy that The Future Bible Heroes have led me to My Favorite.

Just buy this disc. Just go and buy it now. You're not bloody going to find it with any amount of ease or struggle, let me tell you, I hunted high and low before buying it off Amazon as being one of the less taxing options...

The second disc of remixes is worth the price of admission alone. Especially the FBH's remix of Homeless Club Kids, and Phofo's remix of Le Monster.

I can't stop singing these songs to myself especially the "dark shimmering jewel" of the entire two disc set "Burning Hearts" because you could be DEAD and this song will make you weep and dance and be sad and happy all at once....

So to quote the wonderful Dawn French, "I bow to thee." My Favorite.

Sanctus Jehanne D'Arc Ora Pro Nobis.

2.0 out of 5 stars Happy 80's Mope to You Too, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Happiest Days of Our Lives (Audio CD)
I had this CD on my list to explore for some reason, probably because I heard its one real keeper, Homeless Club Kids, streamed somewhere. Think of Van Gogh's painting Starry Night. Then think of some enraptured enthusiast painting a copy of Starry Night for sale to the sidewalk crowd outside the MoMA here in New York. That's what My Favorite is to the Smiths, The Cure, etc, a pretty bleak alternative. The music is listenable and -- as the techo bonus disc also proves -- club danceable, the lyrics are mannered, depressing and banal all at once. On a few cuts the female singer Andrea Vaughn makes more of them than they deserve. Recommended downloads: The Happiest Days of My Life, Homeless Club Kids, Burning Hearts and the Black Cassette. As for the rest, forget it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite is mine, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Happiest Days of Our Lives (Audio CD)
My Favorite is soooo meaningful. They generate an intense inner light that is almost alien to this world, yet i feel i know them.Their music is more than it sounds.Andrea is a modern angel who has the ability to evoke empathy and other-worldliness with a simple turn in melody. And Michael is a saint. What can i say about a mysterious thing. They are My Favorite.
Not since an angry teen heard NIRVANA has anyone experienced significance like this.
They are Beyond Nirvana.
