Lauren Taylor and Cal Samuels were young lovers. Cal's grandfather didn't think Lauren was good enough for Cal, so he drove her away. Lauren and Cal hadn't been married long, but she couldn't take anymore of Cal's grandfathers unkindness.
Lauren had little boy and five years later, the older Samuels dies and as a part of his will he leaves almost everything to the young boy. The ironic thing is that Lauren and Cal has to get married and stay married for a year in order for the child to collect his inheritance. Good book. I don't think Lauren ever stopped loving Cal.

"Happily Ever After" is truly a wonderful love story. The title says it all. Lauren Taylor and Caleb B. Samuels II met and had a brief marriage that lasted all of one week. This sounds like a fantasy romance and it was good while it lasted. However, when they returned to the states, Lauren had second thoughts and was faced with reality. After meeting Caleb's grandfather, the stern Dr. Caleb B. Samuels, Lauren was unsure if marriage to Cal was what she wanted. Cal knew what he wanted, but he loved Lauren too much to force her to remain if she did not want to. Five years passed and things happened and developed. Lauren finds herself a single parent by her own choice. However, by fate, Cal reenters Lauren's life and discovers there is more to be gained and that Lauren has been keeping a secret from him for the past five years. It is only after the death of Dr. Samuels that the secret is discovered. Can secrets and love be transported from the grave?
Lauren realizes she has been selfish the past five years, but to her she never really faced it until it has literally been pushed into her face by someone she thought was her enemy -- Dr. Samuels. Now Lauren must face the ghost of the past - Cal. Can Lauren keep her love safely hidden in her heart and written daily in her journals or will love burst through?
After coming face to face with Lauren again after so many years, Cal wants to pursue the love of his life. However, ever practical Lauren is skeptical and wonders was that week on Cay Verde enough and was it a love that could endure and make their lives "happily ever after?"

This was my first novel by Alers and I thought it was very sweet and simple. Perhaps to make it more exciting, there could have been more action with Jacqueline attempting to break up Lauren and Caleb's marriage. Overall though, it was a sweet love story. I liked how the author took the reader into the minds of both Caleb and Lauren. Both of them loved the other, but feared the other didnt love them back. It isnt till they both admit their feelings to each other, that they begin living "Happily Ever After."

This was such an endearing love story between Lauren and Caleb. I really got wound up into each character. I couldn't understand why Lauren was so reluctant to love Caleb however I did understand Caleb's reluctance. I think that Caleb's grandfather must've seen something in Lauren that reminded him of Caleb's mother and did not want to see that hurt repeated. He could probably see his son in Caleb and wanted the couple to have a chance to right their wrongs. He could see that they were in love with each other even though they didn't know it themselves.

Caleb Baldwin Samuels puppeteered his grandson and granddaughter in law from the grave to make them see what they had and not let it slip away a second time. Drew was just the bonus that he needed.

As usual a well-written novel by Ms. Alers.

I enjoyed this book. The story of Caleb and Lauren was enjoyable. They fell in love very quickly and got married without really knowing each other. Lauren was too young and inexperienced to handle such a serious step and Caleb although also young was extremely worldly and probably should have given the relationship more time to develop. Lauren got cold feet and decided to end the short lived marriage. Caleb did not protest.
Now five years later and they are brought back together due to the passing of Caleb's grandfather. Cal finds out he is a father which Lauren hid from him. Now these two have to figure out their next move. They still love each other but are afraid to admit it. Will they be able to get over their pain of past mistakes and start fresh? Or will false pride keep them from "happily ever after"?

If you did, would you be terrified at how powerful and unexpected the attraction between the two of you was? In this book, two people who didn't know a thing about each other at the time they met, felt totally bound by fate from the first moment their eyes met. This is Caleb and Lauren's predicament - a love they couldn't rationalize, but one that they couldn't deny. Doesn't everyone deserve a forever lover who loves every fiber of you unconditionally every minute of every day? This is the type of story that renews our faith in real love. While I did get tired of Lauren and Caleb questioning each other's motivations, I could really understand their fear. How do you feel this way about a stranger? But I loved, LOVED, loved the notion of love so powerful, explosive, and tangible that the world could clearly see it, even if the two people involved were hesitant because they didn't want to be hurt by this overwhelming love. The question is, will Caleb and Lauren learn to trust what they feel, but can't find a logical explanation for, before they lose each other? All of the characters were great.
