4.0 out of 5 stars When Happily After Ends Deseves 4 Bright Stars, February 15, 2000

This review is from: When Happily Ever After Ends (Bantam Starfire Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I think this book When Happily Ever After Ends was pretty well written, and it deserves 4 stars. This story would be very appealing to horse lovers because horses are a very big part of this story. For example, the setting takes place on a horse farm and the main character, Shannon, is very intersted in riding. The book is also good because the plot is very intense, and it is almost as if you feel their sorrow. For instance, Shannon and her family go through a very rough time, her father dies. I almost cried at some points. This book has a very touching plot. Realistic is a word that describes this story well. It shows reality by showing how death affects people. Such as, after a death in her family, Shannon grieves for months and will not continue in a riding competition. Some books have people get over death so quickly, which in most cases is very unrealistic. Yet this story tells how it really is.The characters are also very realistic, and well developed. Such as Heather, Shannons best friend, does not know what to say or how to react to Shannon after the death of her father, and that often happens in real life. If you are looking for a touching story, the is very realistic, and your a horse lover you will absolutely love this book. Yet even if you're not a horse lover give this book a try you just might like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars When Happily Ever After Ends, March 31, 2003

When Happily Ever After Ends is a great book. It's about this girl that lives on a ranch and does horse shows for fun.Her father misses one of the biggest shows in her career and she knows something is wrong. When they come home they find the most terrifying thing.Even though there is this guy that's hanging around she doesn't like she doesn't really try to acuse him of what happened. You'd be amazed at how close they actually got.Lurlene McDaniel put this book together well. She picked the perfect setting a quiet ranch, very peaceful and calm, anything could happen. This book would be a great book to read if you enjoy sad stories with happy endings.I would recommend this to everyone.

The Campbell Family, including Shannon, her mother and her father, have always been respected in society. When Shannon's father commits suicide, it is a great tradgedy. Following the death of her father, Shannon learns many things about life and about love, how they both hurt.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's a tear jerker, December 30, 1998

i have all of mcdaniel's books (that aren't out of date) and this is one of my faves. i've read it at least three times and i'm tempted to read it again right now. it doesn't have death by a disease--which somehow makes it even better. i don't know why, but i spose it's because the dying person isn't suffering as long. the setting of the story also intrigues me. it's set on a ranch and they go riding horses across fields and trails and everything and it just sounds so romantic. i definitely recommend reading this book if you haven't already.

4.0 out of 5 stars Appearances are deceiving, June 1, 2000

This review is from: When Happily Ever After Ends (Bantam Starfire Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Shannon Campbell seemed to have the perfect life. Her wealthy family owned a ranch, and she was falling in love with one of their ranch hands. But during the summer of her 15th birthday, her beloved father began acting very strange. She tried to identify his problem, but he shut himself off from the family. Unable to deal with tragic memories of his stint in the Vietnam war, her father committed suicide. This was a great shock to the Campbell family and the community. Gradually, Shannon began to heal with the help of her mom, grandma, and the handsome young ranch hand. I loved this book, even though I'm not fond of horses.(obviously, they're prominent in the story) I reccomend it to other Lurlene McDaniel fans and anyone who's lost his/her will to live. It shows how much pain suicide causes for the person's loved ones and may stop suicidal people from killing themselves, or teach others how to recognize their cries for help.
