Kristy Thirsk is awesome.,
By Christine (NH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Happily Ever After (Audio CD)
I'm another one of those people who found out about this group by accident; I fell in love with Kristy Thirsk's voice from Delerium's Karma and did a web search to see if I could find out anything about her, and I came up with this band. Then I bought Shiver (which is available from other places), the Dead and Gone to Heaven EP, and this. One word to describe this album is "exhausting." From the pounding "Bruise" to the ethereal "Lovely Psycho", Thirsk delivers each song with consistent passion. She also wrote all the lyrics on the album, which are not happy lyrics, but, besides Bruise which is violent sounding, they are almost masked by beautiful music. Her occasionally harsh vocals are what give the songs edge as they soar over the often calm music, and it's a very effective delivery. This is a very different album from Shiver, their first album. Shiver has a more pleasant sound to it, though the lyrics are similar. Kristy uses her voice differently in this, and as a whole it's a much less "pretty" sounding album, but it's still beautiful. If you're wondering what Kristy is up to now since Rose Chronicles split, she's singing for a band called Balligomingo.

I Absolutely Love This Album. One Of The Best Albums I Own.,
By Emir (Las Vegas, NV, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Happily Ever After (Audio CD)
This album is absolutely astonishing. I found out about it from the Delerium album Karma with Kristy Thirsk singing in it. So, I decided to check out the band she's in. Man, at first I HATED the album. It sounded so awful and very discourse, like none of the songs made any sense to the ear at all. I was seriously considering selling it. But, after 4 or 5 listens to the album in its entirety, everything just clicked like magic. I started picking up the feel and essence of the music and singing on the album and it was incredible. I then couldn't believe what I was hearing. Thereafter, I got the feel and flow of the album. This is really incredible music from one of the best Canadian bands out there. I hope they come up with a new album soon. It's been awhile since this one came out. I am anticipating it very much. If you can find a copy of this album out there, be sure to pick it up. Believe me, you won't regret it. Very ethereal music. It's Awesome.

Hopelessly Beautiful,
By A Customer
This review is from: Happily Ever After (Audio CD)
I discovered Rose Chronicles on a compilation album and fell madly in love with the track "Blood Red". Don't let the title scare you. It's a beautiful song with passionate vocals and lush music. When I saw the "Happily Ever After" album on Amazon I had to have it. The title itself spoke of it's lovely tunes within. Every track is filled with passion and soul. A very under appreciated band. Listen and love.

I am ever so glad I found this gem.,

I bought this album because of Kristy Thirsk's performance on Delerium's 'Karma' Album. I am very glad I did so. This album displays Kristy's voice in a way I can only describe as beautiful, seductive and angst-filled all at the same time. I find myself frequently listening to this CD despite my over 1000 audio CDs. While it may not be my number one, it has a strange alluring quality to it, which means right now, it is in my top one percent. My favorite song is "Vicious Thorn". I would recomend the other Rose Chronicles Albums, although in my opinion this is their best and if you don't have it and like Kristy's voice, I highly recomend Delerium Karma.

This cd is not to be missed.,

This cd is so addictive that you'll never take it out of your cd player. Kristy Thirsk [vocals] deserves a lot more recognition, as her talent is undeniably huge. The only thing I can say it that this cd is a 'must buy'.

The music is amazing,

I stumbled onto this band quite by accident and I am so glad I did! The music manages to use dark lyrics in a way that doesn't leave the listener feeling like he/she needs a shower. I know this has been said, but Thursk's voice is amazing.

An Unquenching Thursk,
By A Customer
This review is from: Happily Ever After (Audio CD)
I thirst for Thursk's voice! It's an amazing instrument within this very amazing CD. She has quite a range, and you can almost visualize her putting an all out effort into giving the listener her very own vocal aura--it just cascades out of my sound system like a heavy waterfall of sweet, warm water. Very Impressive. "Torn" is my favorite. The tune just has a melody that's very soothing, and relaxing--good after having a stressful day. This CD is a must have for people who want an "etheral" edge to their collection (i.e. Single Gun Theory, or Medicine)and--it's a shame that Rose Chronicles has broken up, for if they hadn't, who can imagine what could have followed "Happily Ever After?" I bet another winner. Buy this CD!

A friend of mine recommended this group to me because it was similar to other things I liked to listen to. I'm happy to say I was simply amazed at the vocal talents of Kristy Thirsk. Her voice is ethereal. This is really a wonderful CD.

Buy it before you die!,
This review is from: Happily Ever After (Audio CD)
Otherwise you might miss out on some of the greatest music you will ever hear. My review of the first album "Shiver" speaks of their style, but it changes some in this release. Harder, yet at times more ethereal. The lyrics seem darker for sure, but that's not to say it's depressing, I always feel better when listening to such fine music, and Kristy Thirsk's angelic voice. As others have said it is a crime against humanity that they broke up, Her solo efforts can be quite good, but the music of Rose Chronicles is beyond reproach. "Blood Red" is absorbing, you lose yourself in it, a song no one talks over. In "Spill" Kristy's emotions, and the chilling lyrics must be heard. "Acquiesce" thunders to a refrain that will thrill you. Like "Shiver" all the songs have merit, and most will have you listening for a long time to come. Buy both albums, then search for "Dead and Gone to Heaven" an EP with a few more precious songs. The music is so layered and complex you won't even need Alzheimer's to sit in a room and listen to it over and over. So get to listening already...

This is a "MUST HAVE" to any collection,
By A Customer

I found this group by accident, and I know next to nothing about them except that their work is truly amazing. Kristi Thursk's vocals are stunningly strong and beautiful with "deep" lyrical content. This is one of those rare albums that one never grows tired of listening to. IMHO, this is one of the top 25 CD's of all time -- and that says a lot!
