My wife bought this book for me as a Christmas gift, something light to read and treat almost like a devotional for a month. I am all about having fun and laughing as I read a book, so I had high hopes for this book.

Unfortunately many of these stories, while having a valid point or two that can be applied in a marriage, came across as annoying rather than funny. In one case, after speaking to a group of people about being married to his wife of 35 years and the humorous squabbles they had, someone came to him, said he was married as long, that he and his wife never had an argument or raised their voices with each other. The speaker, retelling the story, claims to have been unable to contain himself and blurted, "Your wife's a carrot!" This is the kind of humor you will find throughout the book, despite having contributions from around 20 different authors. It is almost as if Ken Davis, the book's editor, changed each story around and applied his own humor, exaggerating in comparisons or circumstances in a constantly failed attempt at learning life through humor.

I was really disappointed with this book and often found myself unwilling to keep going because of the dull and often annoying nature of each "seriously funny" story. Truth be told, I may have laughed three or four times reading the 30 different stories. As another reviewer put it, the cover is the funniest part of this book, and that's no exaggeration.

I've heard Ken Davis before and appreciated his humor. However, this book wasn't very funny (and I bought two!. . .one to give as a gift.)

Happily Ever Laughter captures real-life stories from couples--stories chosen for their humor, variety of settings, and diversity of years married. As readers laugh along with each couple described, they will begin to understand that being able to see the humor in life helps greatly in keeping one's marriage happy and healthy through the years. Includes stories from Chonda Pierce, Bob Stromberg, Daren Streblow, Kendra Smiley, Jeff Allen, John Branyan, Rhonda Rhea, David Dean, Dave Veerman, and Neil Wilson.
This book is a very quick read, with short chapters. Ken Davis, from Focus on the Family, put this book together, with submissions of stories from some famous Christian comedians. I had hoped it would have a little more substance to it, but it was bit lacking for me. I felt some of the stories were forced to fit into the book, and most of the stories were the kind that would have been funny if you were there at the time. Overall not a book I be dying to run out and buy, but an okay book to read.

This book may have been the result of good intentions, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. I was hoping to relate to the stories, get a good laugh, and maybe even be encouraged to see the lighter side of things. None of that ever happened. I was so bored, I stopped reading before the end. (As this book is a collection of stories, I don't think I missed anything important by ending it early.) It just seemed like a waste of time.

June is the month for weddings, and this would make a delightful gift for newlyweds. While marriage should not be entered into lightly, a sense of humor is an important ingredient in a strong, lasting marriage. Written by a variety of contributors such as Chonda Pierce, Kendra Smiley, Jeff Allen, and David Dean and others, each chapter provides a peek into some of the foibles and frustrations they have experienced. When you don't know whether to laugh or cry, choose laughter! From toothpaste to sleep habits to asking directions to critters and children, this book shines the spotlight on what happens when two become one. Sprinkled throughout the books are various quotes on marriage; my favorite is the one from Billy Graham's wife, Ruth Graham: "I'm certainly glad my husband and I are not exactly alike; if that were the case, one of us wouldn't be necessary."

Each chapter ends with a Laugh Lesson which hones in on the spiritual or practical "homework" you can apply to your own marriage. Whether you are newly married or have decades of marital miles under your belt, you'll recognize yourself and your spouse in many of the stories, and be reminded that living Happily Ever Laughter is possible with God's grace and forgiveness, not to mention separate toothpaste tubes!

I love to listen to Ken Davis. He is a really fun guy and is able to tye up everyday life in a few minutes and leave you smiling and laughing. Other people in this book I have never heard of but I will definitely be looking them up. That is one neat thing about this book , at the end of each chapter there is a little blurb about the person who wrote it and their website.

Almost all the of the chapters have a quote from someone about marriage or relationships. One of my favorites is by Ruth Graham (Billy Graham's Wife) " I'm certainly glad my husband and I are not exactly alike; if that were the case, oneof us wouldn't be necessary"

As is the case in most marriages, my husband and I have been going through a tough time financially which has made everything seem tough but this book brought a smile to my lips and helped me to remember some of the good times in my marriage. Definately a feel good book.
