3.0 out of 5 stars Take What Works, and Leave the Rest Behind
"Happiness Is A Choice" was recommended to me by someone I highly respect, a very happy and successful professional. My reading this book paid off with immediate dividends when application of a passage at the beginning helped me end a tiff I was having with my then-girlfriend. That passage reads: "I realized that neither one of us held the truth, only a vision we had...

I'm an expert in happiness. My web site on the subject draws 7 to 15 thousand hits a day because it's all about happiness. I tell them this:

Buy Happiness is a Choice. Don't read it at first. Just turn straight to the chapter called "Shortcuts." There are six shortcuts. Practice one shortcut a week for six weeks. When you have done that the quality of every day of your life that follows will surpass the happiness you've experienced prior to following this recipe. You'll never be able to be as unhappy as you have been and you'll never be able to be unhappy as long as you have been in the past. Every day will be happier.

That's why I say it's the most valuable chapter ever written. The one thing every one of us wants is more happiness. That one chapter, practiced, delivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb book you'll want to share with others, January 1, 2000
This review is from: Happiness Is a Choice (Paperback)
This superb book is one to read and buy for family and friends. Barry Neil Kaufman, therapist, author, motivational speaker, and co-founder of the Option Institute, has observed that despite disappointments, illnesses, and physical and emotional problems, people who are most successful in finding happiness share certain traits. He shows us how to use these traits to change our lives quickly, easily, and without pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars JUST WHAT THE (BOOK) DOCTOR ORDERED!, September 30, 2000
This review is from: Happiness Is a Choice (Paperback)
This self affirming, positive and encouraging book is an excellent Rx for a happier life. I, too, took heart AND learned from the "Shortcuts" chapter. I have found that Barry Neil Kaufman has consistently been a source of comfort and encouragement. This is a book I certainly hope everyone will read. This is exceptionally high caliber and will only serve to make one's life richer and more empowered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes,you can choose to be happy., November 15, 2002
This review is from: Happiness Is a Choice (Paperback)
Many years ago I first read this delightful book and I was amazed at how by simply following Bear's Option dialogue process life could be better.

I have given this book as a gift many times and it is one of those books that I unhesitatingly recommend. My friend, life coach Radha Singh( author of 'Wisdom From The Heart' and 'Xandria') who has had the good fortune to meet Barry Neil Kauffman and to do Option courses says that my giving her this book to read transformed her life.

The simple direct style and the easy prose style of a master story teller makes this a fun book to read.

Do not be deceived. If you follow the priciples set out in this book you will indeed live a happy life.

The title says it all. This book communicates volumes of information - all of it constructive. It is a reminder that we all control our own destiny. It is a hopeful, positive message with suggestions and lots of case histories of people who have put this philosophy into action and how they did it. Everyone can benefit from reading this book. I have read it numerous times. It is timeless.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Path to Living a Life of Happiness and Love, November 22, 2006
By
This review is from: Happiness Is a Choice (Paperback)
I love this book and keep copies with me to give to people. I recently gave a young woman a copy that was my flight attendant. She approached me and said that I just seemed so happy that she had to ask me why. I was on my way home from a weeklong program at the Option Institute. I am asked the question quite a bit these days. Usually about my optimism, or my energy, but the bottom line is that I have learned through the books and teaching of the Kaufmans to truly choose happiness and live it. This book was my first step into the fabulous life I now live. I have seen so many people transform their lives with the tools available to everyone who wants to live a life of love and happiness. Take the first step, read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars We can easily create a happy world, June 25, 2004
This review is from: Happiness Is a Choice (Paperback)
I love this book. The author puts the onus on us.

We can choose happiness as easily as we choose unhappiness.Yet most of us go around being unhappy about everything that is happening around us.It is so amazing to realize that when we are unhappy we have CHOSEN to be that way..how scary and freeing at the same time.
A must read..
