Taking Back Sunday are a band who truly need no introduction. Since forming in Long Island in 1999, the group have sold millions of albums, evolved from a scrappy punk act into seasoned songwriters and continued to forge a successful career. That spirit of resilience and innovation is dripping all over the band's sixth full-length Happiness Is (which is also their first release for ... Read more in Amazon's Taking Back Sunday Store

Editorial Reviews

Taking Back Sunday are back with their sixth studio album and their first since joining Hopeless. The band returns with their classic sound that continues to resonate with fans.

Taking Back Sunday have been working on the album since May with two different producers and completed a portion of the record at Rancho Recordo with producer and long-time sound engineer Marc Jacob Hudson (Saves The Day, The Swellers.) They headed to Long Island to finish up with Mike Sapone (Brand New, O Brother) who also worked with them on the Demos for Tell All Your Friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happiness Is a Journey March 25, 2014
By Kyle B.
Format:Audio CD
I wanted to wait a week before I wrote a review for this album for multiple reasons. Taking Back Sunday has been a consistent favorite of mine since 2003 when I was introduced to Tell All Your Friends by a friend. When getting this album, I didn't want to prematurely praise or criticize it. When Flicker Fade first came out, I was pretty excited about it. It sounded like the single that their previous self title album was missing (although I love the self titled album and I don't get why people on here said they had a problem with it). But when Stood a Chance was released, I didn't initially love it. During the first listen, it sounded a little like the sonic sounding songs I didn't care for from New Again like Sink Into Me. HOWEVER, after a few listens, I was like "What are you talking about Kyle? This song is amazing!" Which is a perfect spot to transition to the rest of the album. After one listen to each song, I wasn't hooked. I liked the different sounds they brought to the table, but not all the songs were for me. But just like Stood a Chance, after a few listens, I realized what a gem this album is. Is it Tell All Your Friends? No. Is it Where You Want to Be? No. Is it Louder Now? No. Is it New Again? No (Thank god, in terms of production). Is it even the self titled albm? No. BUT THAT"S THE POINT! I don't want it to be like any of those albums. If I wanted any of those, I would go back and listen to those actual albums. Every album from any band should be a new project with a new twist to their sound. This is where Taking Back Sunday succeeds with this album. There are 6-7 songs out of the 11 that sound nothing like Taking Back Sunday when they first start. They are evolving and trying new things. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome as usual May 12, 2014

This is definitely Taking Backs most mature, polished album to date, yet it doesnt disappoint, and it doesnt lose their edge - Lot of emotion about more mature subjects that theyve encountered - I feel like the band is growing with me, as I have experienced a lot of the same as of late

5.0 out of 5 stars It makes me happy. April 20, 2014

I've been a fan of Taking Back Sunday for the past 8 years and they never seem to disappoint. I like the fact that each of the albums are different. I don't really like bands that stay the same over the years because I change over the years too. I'll admit that I wasn't that impressed when I listened to it the first time, but over time it grew on me and I really love it now. Especially Beat Up Car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happiness Is delivers May 31, 2014
By Leslie
Format:Audio CD
I told myself I would write this a while back but I didn't want to rush it just to be one of the first reviews posted. This is the band's 6th studio album , not to mention the third by the original line-up who crafted the classic "Tell All Your Friends". Seeing how this is the second album since they reunited you would expect the band to have better cohesion and familiarity thus producing better material than the first go around and I think it shows. What they crafted here is a record that manages to capture all the essence of what made people love "Tell All Your Friends" and at the same time show us that they've indeed grown up and realize their "emo" days are long behind them. Honestly I think this is one of their best records to date with songs like "all the way", "it takes more" and "better homes and gardens" remind you of why you liked this band in the first place. They do try to keep the record from becoming too melancholy and stagnant by mixing in upbeat numbers like "stood a chance" and "like you do". On songs like "beat up car" and "they don't have any friends" the band shows they can right some catchy heavy tunes on par with their slower ones. But what they do best on this record is creating mellow almost atmospheric moods for Lazzara to pour his heart out as usual with very soulful vocals ,especially with the closer "nothing at all" which I think is one of the highlights of the record. Another thing I noticed are the dual vocals are very good much better the self titled effort, they don't feel forced at all and often come in at the perfect moments and Johns voice is a nice contrast to Adam's at times. Overall I genuinely love the record and think that it accomplishes what the band set out to do which was create a honest, moody and progressive record at times. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars In with the New and the Old June 16, 2014
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
Despite a forgettable intro track (who needs these nowadays?) the album shines as an example of this band's ability to stay relevant to a maturing fan base while maintaining that charm we loved as teenagers. Each song feels so much like listening to "Where You Want to Be" and "Tell All Your Friends" but with a cleaner and stronger voice behind it. Truly feels like the band has grown with me in a way, but that could be the nostalgia colored lenses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Album June 3, 2014

Love the sound of this album. With previous albums, Taking Back Sunday has always be solid with their songs, but on this effort, it seems as if their sound grew up. And it's working for them.
