Book Description

In this true confession, self-help memoir, Caren Albers searches much like Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat Pray Love (minus the exquisite food, exotic locations, and sensuous lover) for what she truly wants from life, HAPPINESS.

Shortly after her eighteenth birthday, a shocking event inspires a journey to change her life and find true happiness. She discovers TWELVE STEPS that create happiness – twelve wonder wisdoms that when put into practice can turn anyone into a HAPPINESS JUNKIE.

If you want to invite more happiness into your life or are healing from a painful past, this book is for you, true, tender, and transformational. Find out how happiness gets sidetracked and what ghosts and old dances stand in the way of creating your own happy endings.

“Happiness Junkie lights a path to happiness and beyond. Through personal story she unfolds the 12 steps that inspired her own transformation. Albers opens her heart on every page. She demonstrates in tender and relevant ways that finding the way to happiness is possible and worth every step of the journey.” Mary Anne Radmacher, author of HONEY IN YOUR HEART and SHE - A CELEBRATION OF THE GREATNESS IN EVERY WOMAN

5.0 out of 5 stars Eloquent, funny and completely underpriced! December 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a treasure! Time for 'self-discovery' is so limited these days given the speed with which we rush through our lives. Caren has done an amazing job of laying it all out for us, step by step. With courage, she has outlined an organized path, a process the seeker can implement to by-pass many of the obstacles Caren encountered to land squarely in a "happy place". AND she has entertained us with her spicy wit every step along the journey. I will be sharing this gift with family & friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Courageous Journey December 2, 2013

Caren writes a vulnerable, real and yet thoroughly self-aware and light hearted memoir from childhood pain to her ongoing belief in happiness. Her chapter on finding forgiveness for her mother brought tears to my eyes. This is a woman who has journeyed far with a never ending determination to find her path to peace and happiness. Her 12 steps are for anyone who wants to find their way from suffering to a joyful life. The insights and the experts she has turned to help us all along our way. Well and courageously written. This memoir stuff is not easy when baring the soul to the world. A writer once said that it's like throwing our hearts up in the air to be shot at. She does this bravely and with grace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happiness Junkie Love! December 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you’re looking to have happiness in your life, this is the book to read. Caren shares her own poignant personal story, and how she found her own happiness, along with practical tools for happiness. She structures all of this into her 12 steps to inner peace, steps that any reader can practice. I read through this book in one night because I wanted to learn about all 12 steps from Caren, but now I'm going back to savor all the nuggets of wisdom packed into this little gem. Will definitely be one of those go-to books again and again!

wow! Such an uplifting story! Caren Albers has managed to overcome problems that might keep most people down; but she has shown the reader that anyone can move beyond the negative. This book was very readable, and kept me interested from beginning to end. I hope Ms. Albers continues sharing her journey with us.

Ms. Albers book is written from her heart and reveals pain and feeling that came straight from the core of her soul. It is a road map to finding the kind of peace that can only come from deep pain. Anyone who is carrying pain and hurt from their past that they
can't seem to forget that is keeping them from finding true happiness should read this book. It is very well written and contains multitudes of advise and guidance to help anyone learn how to forgive and find the happiness in life we all deserve. I applaud Ms. Albers braveness in writing this book. In one book she has taken her readers on a journey through pain and forgiveness to a place of happiness and joy and explains in easy to understand ideas on how others can get there too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough personal story to make it believeable January 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Albers uses a string of quotes from various authors to piece her twelve step book together. Although quotes are beneficial to supporting personal experiences, I prefer more personal experience that shows me the depth of the writer's struggle to happiness. Alber's says in her conclusion, "nothing had to die, except my addiction to my story, my failure to let failure teach me, my conditional love, my fear of change, my hate of practice and my inability to hate completely." More of the "nitty gritty" heart wrenching personal struggle with these challenges would have possibly made me a believer that indeed she had found real happiness.

More About the Author

Caren Albers, author of Happiness Junkie, is a wisecracking warrior, writer, and nascent artist. A late bloomer, she earned a B.A. in Communication from The Ohio State University in her thirties, got braces on her teeth at fifty, and published her first book at sixty. She's living proof that what doesn't kill us gives us great material for writing.

Her second book Married to a Vegan releases April 9, 2014. This book offers an inside look at what happens when one person in a relationship commits to a radical life change.

Written from three perspectives, MY STORY shares the humorous tale of how her husband's conversion to veganism took their marriage from magic to mayhem, HIS STORY offers some scientific reasons to embrace a plant-based diet and his own amazing results, and OUR STORY shows the evolution of a couple finding their way together in a new world.

It addresses two important aspects of life: our relationship with each other(emotional well-being), and our relationship with food (physical well-being). This makes it relatable to everyone.

Married to a Vegan is about negotiating, compromise, and commitment. Of course, it's laced with humor and Albers' signature brand of sass. It even has a surprise ending you won't want to miss.
