5.0 out of 5 stars Not One Mediocre Song..., May 27, 2007
This review is from: Happiness (Audio CD)
Quick story: I went to see Deb Talan (one half of this incredible singing team) on purpose at a little dive in Los Angeles that tends to have cool new music now and again, after hearing her song at the end of the movie "Lovely and Amazing." The first singer performed and was just great but when Deb took the stage something different happened. She has this extraordinary lilting yet purposeful tone to her voice that makes you can't help but want to own everything she's recorded. But then she sang the song "You Turned Me Into Somebody Loved" and I lost it. She sang it straight and softly and I knew right then and there I would have to walk down the aisle at my wedding to that song. As luck would have it, I already had a fiancee and a wedding date, but the song wasn't out yet. So a fan on her website sent me a bootleg copy as long as I swore to buy the CD the second it came out.
Since its release, I've played it at least a thousand times, I love every song and I've turned so many friends on to it easily. All I have to do is have it playing in my car and inevitably someone will ask "who is this?"
I have yet in this review to mention Steve's voice which is incredibly gorgeous, moving, emotional and blends perfectly with Debs. The songs are quirky yet all melodic. Don't you hate quirky for the sake of quirky? I say, if there's it's not melodic I won't give it a second listen. So thanks guys. And now I must run and review your next CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, again!, March 13, 2007
This review is from: Happiness (Audio CD)
I asked for, and got this older Weepies CD for Christmas, based on how much I enjoyed their 2006 release. I was not disappointed. The combination of surprising lyrics, weaving harmonies, and Taylor-like bounce, simply makes me happy. I sincerely look forward to their next production.

I hope the Weepies keep creating. Their small discography so far has me yearning for more. Its great stuff with shades and nuances of 10,000 Maniacs' later works, which makes their sound SO appealing to this huge 10K fan.

I have been a follower of Steve Tannen for a long time. He's found a great partner for more great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Steal Happiness, February 26, 2009

I have found that I can not be in a bad mood when I listen to this CD. I've also found that I start singing these songs when I'm in a good mood. The Weepies know how to write a song. I love the ideas of how happiness can't be taken from you, how you can be happy when you know what you want, how you become somebody loved, and how you can get pulled into someone else's rain storms. Every song has a charming perspective on life, the good and the bad, but they don't seem so bad when the Weepies sing about them.

Smart harmonies and great melodic hook are served up in heaping portions here, Deb and Steve are talanted in their own right, but together they really shine! This is a great album to listen to anytime and never ceases to bring a smile to my face! After falling in love with "Say I Am You" I just had to hear what they had done before, and was not disappointed. A fine job!

5.0 out of 5 stars you need this, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Happiness (Audio CD)
Plain and simple...you need this album. If you are just considering purchasing this...I would just take the leap and get it. Because I promise you will not be disapointed, it's amazing.

And "All that I want" is on a JcPenney commercial...cool. I know that may be irrevelant, but that is how I found this album. Love it.
