Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Many great job candidates have poor resumes that are merely a laundry list of job tasks that do little to distinguish them from their competition. The average recruiter or hiring manager spends less than 15 seconds reviewing a resume. Most people's resumes fail to "wow" the reader and quickly end up in the "no" pile.

Writing a resume can feel like an overwhelming task. It can seem like a Herculean effort to consolidate so much important information about a career into a one or two page document. But it doesn't have to be that way! In 'Happy About My Resume', Barbara Safani offers 50 tips for creating compelling copy and presenting it in a powerful way to grab the hiring authority's attention and get them to pick up the phone to call you in for an interview. Safani provides practical and easy-to-follow advice as well as numerous samples that show each of her tips in action.

The book will help readers learn how to quickly create a resume that is professional, gets them noticed, minimizes the amount of time they spend in a job search, and maximizes their earning power. The book is for anyone who wants to proactively manage their career and improve the quality of their current resume or create a resume from scratch.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must-read for a successful job search, January 17, 2009
Quick, easy useful: packed with fresh tips and clear suggestions, this book is a must read for everybody working on his or her resume'.
From work experience to education to personal information, this book helps you decide what to include and what to omit. More to the point, it guides you towards identifying your most relevant skills and job experiences, and shows you how to emphasize them.
Whether you are looking for a new job or you are changing careers, this book will help you articulate clearly and succinctly on paper what sets you apart from other candidates.
The guidelines on formatting and use of illustrations are very useful, while even a quick look at the dozens of sample resumes and cover letters can give you new ideas for your job search.
Even in an era of online job posts and career networking, the resume' is not dead - as long as you have one that stands out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to Take On The World, December 7, 2008
Direct, action oriented, easy to read and not a book full of buzz words that don't really mean anything - This book focused on the concrete not the cliche. Even if you THINK you know it all you might need a reminder.

Great book, easy to read - Perfect to have on the shelf as a reference

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, comprehensive and perfect for a DIY person!, November 10, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This is one of my favorite resume books. Barbara presents 50 tips to help a resume sing, and gives examples taken from real resumes. Anyone who does their own resume needs to have this book opened next to them as they work on their resume, and the final product will be way better than what they could come up with on their own (incorporating best practices while avoiding common mistakes).
