"Linus & Lucy" is worth 3 stars alone!,
By
This review is from: Happy Anniversary Charlie Brown (Audio CD)
When I first heard "Linus & Lucy", I was blown away and I remember frantically searching the music shop for any cd that had David Benoit's version of "Linus & Lucy" on it and I found this. Although describing this as a jazz cd would probably be insulting the purists especially as B.B. King plays some good blues on the second track but this pop cd with heavy "jazz" (ala Spyro Gyra-esque)influences is really very nice.
It's at quite a good length and although not remastered, sounds pretty good too which is what one expects from a GRP album anyways. A real feel-good cd for me and definitely one of my favourites. Vince Guaraldi was really a brilliant composer and "Linus & Lucy" will probably remain a popular favourite for years to come.

Don't judge a book by its cover; this album has good jazz,

Don't let the innocent cover fool you. There are some very fine moments on this album. "The Great Pumpkin Waltz" is the highlight of the album. But the album loses a star because of the Kenny G track.

An all time favorite since the day I first heard it,

I have bought this album so many times it just blows my mind. Yet for some reason I keep having to buy it over again. It seems to be an all time favorite of just about everyone that I let listen to it or borrow it, as it never quite seems to make it's way back to me. But that's ok as I'm glad to be able to share it, I would recommend it to any one interested in jazz, both adults and children alike.

Like the strip, this one brings lots of smiles,

In light of the recent passing of Charles Schulz and the "death" of the beloved "Peanuts" strip, the musical collage is a welcome collection of memories. Featuring stellar performances from some of the greats of pop/jazz, such as B.B.King, Chick Corea, Joe Williams, Patti Austin, and others, "Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown" rises like THE GREAT PUMPKIN.Although the strip is no more, repeat airings of the television programs and repeat listenings of this disc will keep it alive for decades to come. Buy this one!

I bought this CD for my husband not because he's a Charlie Brown fan but because the jazz selections are really spectacular. Top artists came together for this recording. Any jazz fan would find this CD very entertaining.

I'm very happy to have found this cd. I was looking for the tracks of my favorite cartoon and luckly I've found it here.
It's so good to hear B.B. King on Joe Cool Blues and Chick Corea on Great Pumpkin Waltz... Go ahead people and buy it. It's worth the price, the ship, everything.

Splendid compilation, but one track stands out,

There is one track on this CD that makes it worth purchasing all by itself: the Great Pumpkin Waltz, performed by the Chick Corea Acoustic Band. This rendition is absolutely superb and also sports one of my favorite double bass solos. Wow...
The minus side are several sung tracks, of which only B.B. King's tongue in cheek performance is notable. And they really could have done without Kenny G...

The traditional songs, with a few jazz lite touches,
This review is from: Happy Anniversary Charlie Brown (Audio CD)
My major problem with this CD is the combination of the traditional, wonderful jazz sounds (from such artists as Chick Corea and Dave Grusin) with jazz lite moments, such as the contribution from Kenny G. For Charlie Brown fans, this is a must-have--all of the songs that you know and love from the specials are here. If you're a jazz fan looking for a "pure" jazz album, this is probably not for you.

Save the Kenny G track, this album contains a wonderful mix of jazz music of all different styles and offers excellent renditions of the most popular "Charlie Brown" songs. I would highly recommend this album especially for people who enjoy the other Charlie Brown collections.

Excellent collect of Charlie Brown music from the cartoons. Some of the top dogs from jazz, such as Patti Austin and B.B.King, come together to bring you jazz as it should be performed...with the upmost perfection.
