Review

“We have enjoyed these books so much that I buy them as baby gifts for new moms. My son’s vocabulary was largely built (initially) with the help of Roger Priddy’s Happy Babies.”

More About the Author

Roger Priddy is the creator of over two hundred best selling books for young children including Wipe Clean ABC, First 100 Words, and Fuzzy Bee.

When he was at school he couldn't decide between being a patisserie chef or going to art college. On the advice of his father he chose art college and trained as an illustrator before becoming a designer at Usborne Publishing.

Roger's love for children's early learning has led him to create some of the most successful children's non-fiction books, first at Dorling Kindersley (My First Word Book, Incredible Cross Sections and My First Cook Book) before he set up Priddy Books with St. Martins Press in New York where several of his books have sold over a million copies each including My Big Animal Book and Happy Baby Words.

In total he has sold over 65 million books worldwide and his books have been translated into over 30 languages.

He says "It is always rewarding to see a child enjoying and learning something from one of our books, especially the babies when you think it could be the first book they have ever seen.

I am very lucky to have a career where you get to think up fun ways to teach a kid how to write their letters and learn their first words whilst finding out about Dinosaurs at the same time!"

Roger lives with his wife Zena in London and Cork, Ireland (when it's not raining, which isn't very often!) They have four children Sam, Rose, Alannah and Gabriel (and a dog called Wallace) who have given him most of his best ideas for his books. He still loves baking bread and cakes!

We've been reading this book since she was 3 months old. This was the first book she turned a page in, actually she went back to see the cup she likes, so I encouraged her to "do page" from then on and she could turn pages at 4 months old! She reads this book to me now, she can name everything in it easily. She is now 2 1/2, she also loved the Happy Baby 123, Happy Baby ABC, and Happy Baby Animals. I think she liked these books better than any others as a tiny baby because the pictures in the books looked like things she saw in the world, not just cartoons - real stuff. I think she'll be a reader for life and I think these books gave her a wonderful start!! I give them as baby gifts now!

This has become my 11 mo. old daughter's favorite book as of recent. She loves looking at the babies and kids in the book. THe pictures are so clear and bright. She waves bye-bye to the baby in the coat and hat and the baby in the stroller knowing they are dressed to go some where! She reads it over and over before we go to bed each night. THe last page ends with a baby in his crib - ready to go 'night night' like she is. Makes her want to get into her crib! It's a great book.

This is one of my 13-month-old daughter's two favorite books. She picks it up and gives it to me to read to her again and again, and once we are done reading it she thumbs through it pointing to pictures and asking, in effect, what the name of each thing is. In fact, she sometimes insists on taking this book with her to bed at night. I think that it not only is fun for her, but also has helped her understand the concept of language.

My son loves the Happy Baby series! I can't say enough good things about these books. It's hard to find a book that will have my toddler sitting down for a few minutes and sitting quietly reading, but these books do it.

We bought Happy Words to help with his vocabulary, and it didn't take long to see his interest grow in wanting to know the names for things around the house. I know he enjoys the book because he pulls it out nearly every day for me to read it, even more, he's starting pointing to certain pictures asking me to repeat the names, so I know he's learning and taking it in. This book has about 13 full spread pages each with a familiar scene for a toddler- getting dressed, eating a meal, going on a walk, taking a bath, facial expressions etc. What I like most is that these scenes and words included are pertinent to a toddler, they're not just about whatever, but things a toddler needs to know the names of. Last but not least, did I mention my son loves this book??

So, if you're a mom of an infant/toddler or buying these as a gift for one, these are a SURE BET. They are also reasonably priced in my opinion. Other books in this series we own and enjoy are the Colors and ABC's. We'll definitely be buying more too as time goes on. Way to go Roger Priddy!!

I've been on a mission to find a book that meets the following criteria for my 9 month old son:
- Must be a board book (because he chews everything!)
- Mustn't be too long (32 pages maximum because we're dealing with a short attention span here)
- Mustn't be too big (so my son can easily pick up and play with the book)
- Must contain photographs of familiar objects and other babies (because all of his other books only have illustrated pictures of animals for some reason!)

"Happy Baby: Words" fit all of the above criteria perfectly and my son loves it to death. He can actually turn the pages himself and he gets so excited seeing all the baby photographs inside.

Great book!

Our copy has been through two children. Both of my kids love the bright and clear pictures. We are teaching my son sign language and this book is great for teaching simple words and signs! A well loved book!

I read this to my little one and it has helped increase her vocabulary. She loves pointing to the pictures and saying the words. She is also able to associate the pictures to what she sees in her day to day activities.

My 11 month old boy/girl twins love this book, it is their favorite. The pictures are clear, bright and well organized. When I start to read it they come crawling over to look and listen. It has started to come apart, but it is on their wish list for their birthday. My only negative comment is that I would like to see a larger number of photos in some of the groupings.
