Each entry includes an appropriate greeting in the country's official language, a world map highlighting the area under discussion, a short description of typical birthday customs, and a simple activity. Readers can make Australian fairy bread; crackers in the Canadian custom; or learn to play Ampe, a popular party game in Ghana. The "Happy Birthday" song is featured in nine languages that include English, Korean, Hebrew, and Spanish. Colorful illustrations add to the festive mood. No source notes appear, but there is a bibliography. Pair this offering with Gail Gibbons's Happy Birthday! (Holiday, 1987) for a joyful look at birthday history, customs, and celebrations. This book includes birthday greetings and celebrations from 19 different countries. Packed with interesting trivia and simple games, recipes, and crafts this book is fun for the whole family and is a great way to begin to introduce different cultural celebrations to small children.
