The Happy Birthday Present,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Happy Birthday Present (An I can read book) (Library Binding)
The Happy Birthday Present is about two little boys who want to get their mother a birthday present. They go around town to each and every shop to find her one. But they end up not having more then a dime to spend, and use that and some of the things the store workers give them for free, to make their mother the best birthday present ever. The age level for this book would be around 5-8 years of age. A lesson this book teaches is its the thought that counts. Meaning, you dont have to buy your mother, (or anyone else) the most expensive gift. You should just get, or make, whatever you are able to, and know that the person will love it just because you thought of them. I thought this was a good book for younger children to read.

This is the story of Peter and Davy who set out to get their mother a birthday present. Although they have very little money, they manage to collect things that they put together to make the gift. Its a sweet story and as a 4 year old I thought it was the most hilarious story ever written! The pictures portray the main action plus the antics of mischievous little brother Davy. I loved this book as a child and so did my children.

I had this book when I was little, and found it again on Amazon. It's a very gentle story about two brothers going out to look for a present for their mother's birthday. They only have a dime, but manage to give their mother a dear and thoughtful present. I have two boys the ages of the boys in the story, about 3 and 7, so it's the perfect book to read to them.

I got this book for free from a box of books that my neighbor's son had outgrown. It was a HUGE hit with my oldest daughter, age 4 1/2yrs. The whole book is basically dialog between two brothers (probably ages 6 and 3)as they search for a birthday present for their mother. The dialog is really funny and had my daughter in stitches! If you have children roughly the ages of the characters you will think it's even funnier because the conversations between the brothers are exactly the way kids talk. I could hear my girls (4 1/2 and 2 1/2) having the same type of conversation. One example:"Davy, do you have any money?" asked Peter. "A hundred dollars," said Davy. "Really?" said Peter. "A million," said Davy. "That is silly," said Peter. "How much do you really have?" "A penny," asid Davy. "That is not a penny, " said Peter. "that is a dime." It is just so enjoyable, we went through all 63 pages in one night. |
