4.0 out of 5 stars Why did it take so long to release this Christmas gem?, March 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Happy Christmas Day (Audio CD)
Ever since CD's became the vogue for music, I've waited for this classic Christmas album by Charley to be released on CD. It was done during his peak recording era - though he still can outsing many of today's so-called stars.

Just listen to the spine-tingling rendition of They Stood in Silent Prayer - retelling the story of Christmas with its lush arrangement. Or the joy of Christmas, remembering how you felt when you were 'that' young in Christmas in Our Home Town or Santa and the Kids.

Believe it or not - trivia buffs - Charley is actually credited for writing a couple of the songs on this album - Santa and the Kids. Happy Christmas Day.

The album captures the spirit of Christmas - from the traditional tunes and their country arrangements with Charley's renditions to new treasures like those mentioned above.

Charley has an understated way of sticking to the melodies, letting the song be the star along with the arrangements. But still distinctively Charley.

One of the Best country Christmas albums around. Go for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Christmas Day, November 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Happy Christmas Day (Audio CD)
The entire selection is great. I have been looking for this for quite some time. I think it is one of if not the greatest Christmas selection my family has heard. We have the album but were now seeking it in CD. It has been a family selection for years (album form). Since my children were small, it has been the selection played during the decoration of our tree at Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Christmas Day, December 20, 2001

My heart jumped for joy when I realized that this was the album that my family listed to growing up. The songs are so special to me. We had the eight track growing up and I am ordering one for my parents. No one in my family has been able to find this music. Charlie Pride has a wonderful voice and the songs are uplifting and bring out the true meaning of Christmas. I feel like I just got the Best Christmas present ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Special meaning, November 6, 2002

This review is from: Happy Christmas Day (Audio CD)
I can't really add anything new, but I can emphasize and reiterate what others have said. This album has very special meaning for me and my family. My parents own the record, and I can remember listening to it as I was growing up. It just wasn't Christmas without hearing Charley Pride! I also have a special feeling about the song "They Stood in Silent Prayer," a song I knew and could sing as well as I could Rudolf, Jingle Bells, or any other traditional holiday song. Even after I had married and moved away, my BROTHER (who still lived nearby) would help my parents decorate and just had to put on that record. I think it says a lot that so many of us speak of this album as a family tradition. I hope many other families enjoy it too, either as nostalgia or as a "new" discovery!

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming album drenched in nostalgia, December 24, 2004
This review is from: Happy Christmas Day (Audio CD)
Like every other reviewer I will have to agree in that this is a family classic. This album has been the centerpiece of our Christmas music for as long as I can remember. We listened to it in record form until I had the know-how to transfer it from record to CD (with all the crackles and pops) to make it more convenient.

When I was 9 or 10 years old I learned the lyrics to "Little Drummer Boy". I stood in front of a mirror, hair brush microphone in hand, and belted it out over and over until I had it memorized. Then there's the yearly confusion over the lyrics of "Santa and the Kids", and the annual recounting of the tale of my oldest sister's birth on Christmas Eve. This album was there for that special day as well. My dad heard "They Stood In Silent Prayer" on the radio as he sat in the parking lot at the hospital.

I enjoy this album now more than ever knowing how it has a special place in the hearts of numerous families. As I listen to it this Christmas I think about all of the other families enjoying it in much the same way, it's a special feeling.

Charley Pride and a family gathering, these are the things it takes to make a happy Christmas Day.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Gift!!!!, January 2, 2012

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Happy Christmas Day (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD as a gift for my father who has been looking to replace his old Christmas albums that he has on vinyl with CDs. He was thrilled when I told him that I had found this one and that he would be receiving it. You just cannot find a lot of these great old Christmas albums on CD in traditional retail stores.

So glad that there's an Amazon to offer these, what have become, rarities.

This is the only Chrismas CD I listen to more than once each Christmas season. My family first got this in 8 track form. This album helped me get through the first Christmas after my dad died. I have owned it in every possible format from 8 track, album, cassette, and CD. Thank you Charley Pride.
