I randomly caught an episode of Auction Kings one night on Discovery and instantly became hooked. The 30 minute show revolves around Paul Brown, Gallery 63 owner, where most of the show takes place. His staff includes the hilarious Cindy, the office manager and Paul's sidekick. Jon & Delfino round out the cast as the new picker of treasures and the fix-it guy. People can either bring in auction items or Gallery 63 will go and pick up items. Interesting items for the auction include a first edition Great Gastby, a 1960's pink cadillac, a vampire killing kit from the 18th century, and a hot air balloon with included ride over Atlanta. Paul brings in appraisers and experts to authenticate items. Then the show really becomes like a roller coaster esp. when the auction gets started with bids flying everywhere. Loved the show so much I nearly bought the entire season. Hope there is a season 2!

With all the interesting 'treasure hunt' type of shows on today (Pawn Stars, Auction Hunters, Hollywood Treasures, Storage Wars, etc.), this one fell kind of flat for me.

The owner of the auction house comes across as an honestly vain clone of Matthew McConaughey - a youngish guys wearing tight shirts and pucca shelled necklaces. He alone is irritating enough to avoid the show. But when you add in the bland and honestly boring employees, it is clear why shows such as American Pickers hired an interesting burlesque Dancer to work at the office and be in the show.

The American Pickers guy had a quote in one episode: "I wanted to show that antiques aren't about an old guy in a blue sweater with lots of cats." But neither should it be about a narcissistic owner who doesn't do much in the show except walk around and look at his inventory or get ready for an auction. Truly, the guy preens more than a contest on Americas Next Top Model.

What I find with this show is that I miss the excitement other treasure hunters have about their job: as with the owners of Pawn Stars, Hollywood Treasures, or American Pickers who genuinely get excited in nearly every episode. The owner of Auction Kings just seems to be going through the motion, walking around and talking in a slow drawl while his employees walk around clueless.

In the end, I watched 3 episodes and then just gave up. There are too many other really good treasure hunting programs out there to waste time with a bland one.

Auction King was one of the Best Shows Now they Are Off? Because all they show are Pawn Stars All day Long-- I like Pawn Stars But the Re Runs have Become too Much & Storage Wars Re Runs from Last Year Over & Over too Much of a Good Thing Please Producers think of Us and Mixed it up With Auction Kings & the Other Auction Type Shows!

Auction Kings Season 1 is a fun show to watch for those who enjoy going to auctions. It gives a person a backstage pass to see what happens before an item hits the auction stage.

Enjoy this show. Unique items. Southern language and mannerisms. Enjoy the history lessons. Wish this show was still being made.
