Thing in a bag, November 29, 2004
I purchased this item for my sisters cat, 'Scooter'. After fiddling with the batteries and turning it on, all it did was 'buzz'. No crinkling at all. Scooter just stared at it and walked off. Disappointing.

Well, it got their attention, August 19, 2005
If you're like me, you have an older cat who is kind of laying around, gut spreading a bit in front of the TV while a newscast is playing information about how pets are overweight like people. So I had the brilliant idea to buy some fun toys for my cats that would miraculously make them come alive again, jump around and "play away" those extra "Frisky" pounds they've accumulated over the years. Not always so.
I think toys like this are meant for kittens rather than cats. My two old guys didn't know what to do with it. The first one looked at it while it was vibrating away and marked it with his nose while walking by as in: "Oh! Something else that doesn't have my scent on it." Then promptly laid in the sun.
The second one who isn't quite as smart as the first, sat and stared at it for awhile not knowing what to make of it. When it would stop he would go to sniff at it and then jump back. After awhile he looked at me as if saying: "Why are you torturing me like this?" And then laid in the sun next to the other one.
This is a toy for kittens. Remember kittens? They get freaked out by anything that moves and is probably a better toy for kittens as they're filled with energy at a few months of age. Cats are different. They're content with laying around in the sun, munching on food and if they've had a little cat nip, they'll swipe at the laser pointer I turn on at night. Otherwise, they're content with just being in my lap. Think of it like people: Five year olds will run around, run around and run around for hours on end while their parents get winded just picking up after them and are content with laying in the backyard watching them. Same thing.
Overall: get this if only you have kittens and you want to get your cat active. Elderly cats are better off with weight control food. I'll be donating mine to the local cat shelter.
I've reviewed "The Bug Jar" as well. Check my other reviews.

Cats just watched this, no interaction, April 23, 2006
First, this thing really makes a lot of noise on a hard word floor. More noise than I expected from a reasonably small toy.
Second, my cats did not interact with this toy. They did watch it shake and rattle for a few minutes, but made no attempt to play with this toy.
This toy got their attention (which is why it got 2 starts) but they showed no signs of interacting with this toy like they do with their other toys. There are many others toys on the market that are superior to this one. Overall, I do not recommend this toy.
