Happy Ending,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Happy Ending (MP3 Download)
"Happy Ending" is one of Mika's best songs. Mika sings in the tradition of rock opera, in the falsetto style of Freddie Mercury (Greatest Hits I, II & III - The Platinum Collection (3CD)) and (The Who: The Ultimate Collection). Mika has incredible range. He can go from being a low tenor to a high falsetto, and in this song he traverses the whole rainbow spectrum of songs."Happy Ending" has the bittersweet subject of a relationship ending. A bleak subject indeed, but Mika manages to turn it into an opera, along with a spiritual with a gospel choir. One can imagine a choir singing the chorus of this song like the one in Madonna's Like a Prayer. It also sounds like something perfect for the cast of GLEE (Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers (Deluxe)) if they were doing a rock opera version of War and Peace (by Leo Tolstoy), with the wounded Prince Andrei hearing Princess Natasha (who ended their engagement) and Princess Lisa (who died in childbirth because he abandoned her), singing, "There is no hope, no glory, no happy ending." It would be a showstopper... if one could imagine the narcissistic Will Schuester as Prince Andrei Bolkonsky. All it needs is a good tenor who can hit high notes, and backup singers who are like a gospel choir. THAT'S life in cartoon motion! |
