the voice of a grown woman, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Happy Face (Audio CD)
Kim McLean gives voice to the woman who has survived the pain of heartbreak and disappointment to discover the joy of motherhood, the beauty of true love, and the satisfaction of wings ready to fly. She also expresses the peace and wholeness of a life born again to God. Kim graces her music with a rich harmony that soothes and calms, but infuses it with a gutsy rhythm that grooves and rocks. Kim's music might be categorized as "country," but the instrumental, vocal, and rhythmic range crosses several boundaries and will appeal to a broad range of tastes. As a songwriter, Kim tells the story of a woman who has embraced her children ("Song of Eve"), celebrated her freedom ("Unapologetic"), experienced the passing of time ("Same River Twice"), and loved her man ("All About Us"). It's a story many of us share.
