5.0 out of 5 stars P-L-E-A-S-E!!
This is an amzing toy - specially for little girls who will or have just become big sisters!!! I have a 4 year old daughter and I am now 8 months pregnant. Do you expect me to hide my pregnancy from her to "protect her innocence"?? Yes,I am pregnant, yes she can see the baby moving inside, and yes - she is fascinated with it!!! It is such a beautiful and innocent thing...

1.0 out of 5 stars Are these reviews of the toy or its morals?
Apparently my child has not learned to be a responsible parent yet since she's already lost the baby (being able to attach to Midge's very un-American-sized waist apparently makes for quite a preemie!) Midge obviously doesn't have drive-thrus in her "Happy" town nor worries about varicose veins in those high heels. I'm also not sure how educational this toy is since...

It is such a beautiful and innocent thing for a child to see her mom pregnant!! Why not have a doll that "looks like mommy"?
My being pregnant HAS NOT stolen my daughter's innocence! Neither will a pregnant Barbie steal your child's!!! My daughter does not know "how" the baby ended up in my tummy, and she is not interested either!! She is more interested in the fact there is a baby on the way!
I think it is hypocritical and pathetic that people are "apalled" by this Barbie. If acknowledging there are pregnant women out there is so damaginng for a child, what do you suggest I do as to my own pregnancy? Lie to her and say the bump in my stomach is a watermellon?
I hope Matel does not discontinue this doll.
Please, go complain to Matel about the sexy Barbies out there! THOSE are a problem for little girls.

PS. By the way, she has a wedding ring on.

Why are so many people "shocked" at a pregnant doll whom is, by the way, MARRIED with a husband and older child. I have been an OB/GYN nurse for 23 years, and feel that this doll is an excellent example of a STABLE, happy family and a good role model/example for kids. It DOES NOT tell teenagers that it is ok to get pregnant when you are a unmarried, teenager. If this were the case the doll would not be called "happy family", it would be called "knocked up, unwed welfare teenage Mom". In my 23 years of nursing experience the young teen girls that end up pregnant are the ones who NEVER saw a pregnant womans belly and had very little knowledge of pregnancy. ALSO, I may add that before woman had regular access to modern medical pregnancy and birth care from doctors and hospitals, all babies were born at home and older children, especially farm children, were present during births of their siblings. Where babies came from was not a secret or "dirty" subject. And farm children also witnessed the births of many of the farm animals and I bet if someone where to do a study on these children, seeing and knowing about the process of pregnancy and birth did not increase unwed pregnancies and this group may even be in a much lower risk group for teen pregnancy is my guess. Excellent teaching toy when child is at apropriate age to understand the information. I would not give one to my 2 year old, but my 7, 8 or especially a 9 year old would only benefit from the doll. Thank you

I am 28 years old and far too old to be playing with dolls - but that's another story! what's all the fuss about? My mom never liked Barbie herself, a perpetual ice blond with inhuman measurements even the runway models cannot compare to! Barbie doll has probably given a lot of girls a poor self image. I grew up surrounded by little mannequin blonds and never felt un-beautiful at 4'11", raven - haired, and 110 pounds. I still look like a kid, truly. But, Midge is very, very different. My one complaint: the husband and wife should be offered together in a giftset. And - I still handle her with care. I think she can be fragile if knocked about. Mattel gets a lot of money by forcing us adults to "chase" and "hunt" down hard-to-find items. I saw my first C-section birth at the age of 3 on Phil Donahue and knew exactly how I was born and where I came from. I am not married and wouldn't have children unless I were. I believe that the Happy Family is the only positive product line from Mattel's Barbie & Friends. A true freckled strawberry-blond, she breaks the mold with a gentle face. Her hairstyle is simple and irresistible to style. The baby is adorable and, well, not easy to dress, but cradles into Mommy's arms. Her pregnancy belly is huge and can be left on after "delivery" so little ones can get a sense of what very new mommies look like. Her maternity smock is pretty, though the high-heel mules are impossible for a pregnant woman - just ask my girlfriends! And some maternity slacks would have been lovely. Mom bought me the entire line including the nursery, grandparents, Alan & Ryan, and the new Neighborhood series. I substituted the little red - haired girl for Nikki since I can't imagine Midge and Alan having such a tow - headed little child! Ryan is adorable! We use Pool Party Liana as his fraternal twin sister with her red - blond pageboy. Seeing grandparents is a generational twist I have been waiting for since junior high. We also collected the ethnic line and the dolls are beautiful. Midge's maternity dress layette is fabulous if you can find it with a diaper bag and post - partum slacks and shirt. Overall, this is a teriffic married couple with married parents that support a nice family. Kelly and friends and Chrissy baby give little ones the options of "adding" siblings and this a very realistic view if you total accessories. A child can really envision pregnancy and infant care and it can open up a really good discussion.

Now, my friends are all freaking out over pregnant barbie. They say that they shouldn't inflict anyting having to do with pregnancy as girls are to young to know about that stuff. Well, i think that the barbie itself doeesn't impose questions as much as it shows kids what is where. And pregnancy should NOT be something to be ashamed of! You shouldn't hide your kids from it! Pregnancy is a beautiful and natural thing! I was disgusted the number of people that felt upset over this doll. Good on you, mattel!

One of the most lovely Barbies I have seen in quite some time.
She has an adorable freckled face with shiny vivid pink lips and a benevolent expression.
Her stomach is held on by two magnets (it can only go on the correct way)so it can easily be attached with or without baby and dettached to reveal a typical slim Barbie body.

She comes with a crib/changing table, baby daughter and lots of little accessories she'll need to take of baby with.

I'm really unsure of what people see wrong with this doll. She's married, wearing a wedding ring, it's all very tasteful, moral, and even educational. After acquiring the entire Happy Family set I shown it to people that wanted to see what the fuss was all about. None of them found any problem with it. Everyone thought it precious and many wanted to get it for their own children.

Think about all the silly dolls out there that don't do anything. The kids want them because the commercialism for that particular toy really catches your childs attention, then you hear I have to have it mommy. Your child receives the doll, that you really didn't want to spend $.. on, but you did for her, and now it sits in your childs room gathering dust. This is NOT that type of toy. It is very well thought out and well made. I commend the person whose idea it was. Extremely educational and very fun. Never seem to loose interest, not at all. Whether 4 or 44 anyone would love it and understand what nature is all about. Silly to look into anymore than its an awesome doll that they will love to always play with

I'd like the respond someone (who remain delightfully anonymous) who insulted my pregnant mother, by calling Midge a (...). First of all, my friend, please remember that kids will be reading these reviews, and you do not want them to pick up bad words, thank you very much.

How is Midge a (...)? She's married, she has a husband, and a little son. (...) are women who walk around having (...) with lots of men, not pregnant women who are married. If Midge is a (...) then all those women who've ever been pregnant must also be (...). I find it so insulting to females to call pregnant women (...). That means your mother was also a (...) because she had to become pregnant to give birth to you. Oh, please, don't tell me you NEVER had a mother, who, in your fair opinion (hey if Midge is a (...), your mother was a (...), it's only fair, becaus eyour motehr and Midge were standing in the same position), was a (...) for becoming pregnant and giving birth to you!

SUDDENLY WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE PREGNANT WOMEN WHO ARE MARRIED AND HAVE HOMES, HUSBANDS ARE TO LABELLED (...) - GET A GRIP, WILL YOU PLEASE!

Most negative reviewers here mention something about this doll being connected with sex. Excuse me, I learned about pregnancy as a young child of three, but I knew nothing of sex until I was much older. When my little sister looks at my pregnant mother, the last thing she ever thinks about is sex. Kids know nothing about sex when they handle this doll, and if they do, it's because you told them! Midge doesn't doesn't say anything about sex (yeah, having a baby, but not full-blown SEX). Of course, if you're so dirty in the mind, that you HAVE to think "sex" every time you see a pregnant woman (or doll, for that matter), please, get mental therapy, because we don't need kids as young as four ( who know nothing of sex, just pregnancy) to read your reviews, and ask "Mommy, what is sex?"

Speaking of sex, parents, if you don't let your kids have a single idea of what sex is, they won't listen to you later on in life when you try to tell them about sex. The media would've already given them the wrong info they need. AND, if you wait until your kids are twelve, they will feel betrayed taht you kept a great secret like sex from them for twelve long years: taking them for fools, and they may not trust you if you try to teach them about sex, because they may then think you are *sigh* once again, lying to them.

And this should be mentioned as well: why is it considered so harmful for a seven-year-old to learn about the mild details of sex? (You don't need to show them any pictures or go into great detail.) I learned it all at age six, and as far as I knew, I wasn't horrified, I didn't go insane: I didn't go to view porn, or indeed (*gasp of horror*) try it for myself.

I asked my four-year-old sister to read these reviews (except the ones mentioning sex, which I blotted out for her), and especially the ones that claim that children who see this dolls will be enticed to get pregnant young, or indeed (*gasp*, the horror! Oh, the Humanity!) as a baby girl. You reviewers claim that a 30-year-old woman with a husband, a nice home, and a son are promoting teen pregnancy, or promoting children to get pregnant. Ha. I laughed at that. And guess what? Don't assume my sister (or any girl for that matter) is stupid enough to do that. My sister buys plastic baby dolls to play with, she does not get pregnant, because any girl with common sense would NOT want to get her belly sliced open, or her birth canal because all girls who have brains know that it is painful. Parents, please don't think that your children are extremely stupid as you are trying to emphasize. That being said, it can be concluded that claiming this doll promotes teen pregnancy or will lure kiddiewinks into pregnancy is a silly, ignorant, and plain darn STUPID claim!

Need any more proof that kids won't see this doll and get pregnant? Well, your kid plays with Doctor Barbie, now, doesn't she? Does she go into office as a doctor, open up a clinic, begin serving patients and issuing prescriptions? Hmmm...for some reason, I don't see anyone under the age of twenty working in doctor's offices. But wait - alas, you kid PRETENDS TO BE A DOCTOR! OK SHE PRETENDS TO BE A DOCTOR, SO SHE DREAMS OF HER FUTURE AS A DOCTOR. MIDGE IS NO DIFFERENT, AND WHEN YOUR CHILD DREAMS OF BEING PREGNANT, AND STUFFS HER SHIRT, SHE'S ONLY DREAMING OF HER FUTURE AS A MOTHER, NOT HURTING HERSELF, OR MURDEIRNG ANYONE.

BTW, hat stork tale is a lie. Period. Don't deny it - it... is... a... lie. You want to stick with that I should mention, that if you feel your child is not old enough to know of pregnancy, DON'T BUY THE DOLL! WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE OLDER! IT'S NO REASON TO BAN THE DOLL! It's a parents's job to decide what their child should know, not a doll's.

Hey. I am 12 and i got this doll about 2 years ago. I dont see what is so bad about this toy because all it has is a hollow magnetic belly where the itty bitty baby fits nicely into. the belly pops off she in not pregrenate anymore. It is absolutly adorable! it is so much fun. it is so great because before they made this i used to stuff my doll shirt with barbie clothes to make her pregnate.

To some of you i have to agree for a 3 year old this might be confussing. But for a 5 & up it is the best toy!
