4.0 out of 5 stars Cool as Ice!
First offf the Prince song is one hte most soul-stirring, listenable tracks as he's ever made! It's kid friendly and deep enough for adults too! Robin Williams sing a great song too-in spanish! All in all it's a good Cd with some radio-friendly pop songs like Gia Farrel's "Hit me Up", as well as some interesting "mash-ups" such as Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman singing a...

3.0 out of 5 stars The movie soundtrack was great...but this is not the REAL movie soundtrack, November 28, 2006
This review is from: Happy Feet (Audio CD)
My daughter and I went to the movie and were so struck by the POWERFUL music that I went out and immediately bought the soundtrack. Where are all those songs the penguins sang? And what about those great mixes? When are these movie folks going to realize that we don't want to hear singers performing songs that were not in the movie--I don't care who they are. We want to hear the same people who sang in the movie, singing on the soundtrack. This makes no sense to me and made even less sense to my 4 year old daughter, who was hugely disappointed with the bulk of the songs on the cd.

We wanted to hear more of the penguin songs and less of the background songs that no one cares about (i.e. "Beach Boys"). If I wanted to hear the Beach Boys, I'd go out and buy their cd. Put something on the soundtrack cd that we can't get anywhere else and forget that old stuff we can get any time we want to.

"Boogie Wonderland," "Somebody to Love" and "Kiss/Heartbreak Hotel" are the only truly awesome songs with actual "Penguin" voices that you will hear on this soundtrack--although "Kiss/Heartbreak" had a much better mix on screen. There is one Robin Williams song, but it was much better in the movie too.

Except for "Boogie Wonderland" (which ends abruptly) you miss out on the great STOMP, tap and mix effects that were so overpowering in the movie.

Let's hope they put a lot more of the original stuff on 2nd soundtrack coming out and get it right.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's alright, December 2, 2006

This review is from: Happy Feet (Audio CD)
Not really the same songs as the movie - or at least not done by the original artists. I paid the money to hear the songs from the movie, not re-done songs by other artists. My children listened to the CD and said, "This isn't how it was done in the movie!" There are one or two that were the same, that's the only reason it has a 3-star rating. Very disappointed.

First offf the Prince song is one hte most soul-stirring, listenable tracks as he's ever made! It's kid friendly and deep enough for adults too! Robin Williams sing a great song too-in spanish! All in all it's a good Cd with some radio-friendly pop songs like Gia Farrel's "Hit me Up", as well as some interesting "mash-ups" such as Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman singing a mix of Prince's "Kiss" and Elvis's "Heartbreak Hotel" which works unexpectedly well. "Jump 'n' Move" will have anyone tapping their feet to the beat even if you cant understand all the words. "I Wish" is another highlight by Patti LaBelle, Fantasia, and Yolanda Adams. This CD is a great mix of songs to play if you like music but also have kids in the car and think the radio is a little bit too much, like I do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the ORIGINAL Soundtrack, November 29, 2006

This CD has been heavily Rap-'ised'.
I guess to appeal to Today's Music audience.

The Producers of this CD should have taken a clue from a Hit CD Soundtrack like SHREK and realized that by giving the Music consumer exactly the songs that are on the Movie (not cheap imitations) and in their Exact Movie order they would have had a bigger CD Hit.

If you like to hear the better version of these songs - then record them from the Upcoming DVD.

I do not understand why they brought out this watered down version of the movie sound track. What is the point? They missed out some of the most memorable somgs from the film and some of the most memorable performances. Why? The CD would have been a lot better if they had simply recorded the music from the film and put it on a CD. How hard is that??

3.0 out of 5 stars incomplete - missing Candela, April 27, 2007
This review is from: Happy Feet (Audio CD)
I've seen a few people asking what song was playing while Mumble was dancing with the adelies (the shorter penguins), and when I originally purchased the soundtrack I had hoped it would be there. Unfortunately, it wasn't - and after much searching the title of the track is 'candela' by Da Madd Dominikans (in case anyone else needs to find it). It's really too bad the soundtrack itself didn't have this gem on it, and the original "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder which actually played in the movie. I am sure this compilation works for many people, but for my purposes I would have gone in search of single tracks since the main tunes I wanted were not available here.

Almost everyone I've talked to wanted to listen to the song Seymour, or Fat Joe, sings. It's not on the album, but I thought I'd might as well tell what it is. The song is called "The Message", sung by Grandmaster Flash.

P.S. Boogey Wonderland is FANTASTIC!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Happy Feet Soundtrack, March 30, 2007
This review is from: Happy Feet (Audio CD)
I was very disappointed in the Soundtrack. I loved the music in the movie along with the tap dancing. Why isn't the CD soundtrack the same thing? Would like to see a CD with all of the original songs with the original singers along with the tap dancing sound with them. That would make my feet dance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't help but want to move, November 19, 2006
This review is from: Happy Feet (Audio CD)
I have seen the movie, have heard the music in the proper context, and so what if the tracks are not by the original artists. The music works with the movie and is as entertaining as it is intended to be. Some people are incapable of just enjoying a movie (or its music). To those people I say that it must suck to be you! This is a brilliant and enjoyable soundtrack, it makes a person want to dance; and for those who have a light-hearted outlook on life I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy Feet, November 25, 2006

The highlight of the score, and the film, is the penguin-centric rendition of "Boogie Wonderland", with a light percussion representing Mumble's tap dancing (and a low percussion for the thousands of penguins tapping). It's a pity the song has to end with a disconcordant riff as the Penguin Elders interrupt the song during the film - the Spanish interjection by Raul is a nice touch. Unfortunately, the Kiss/Heartbreak Hotel mash isn't the same as it is in the film. Robin Williams rough singing of a Spanish "My Way" is better on screen than on CD. John Powell's instrumental on the 13th track hints at a better score soundtrack that's due in mid-December.

Overall, one fantastic track, some good ones (including Prince's "Song of the Heart" that leads off the album -- and is the closing credits song), and one or two skippable tunes, and a preview of Powell's soundtrack.
