Best keyboard out there!,
By Dirk F. (Albany, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite2 USB (Black) (Personal Computers)
My friend has the original version of this keyboard and after using it for a few days, I fell in love with it. This is the absolutely best keyboard I have ever typed on. The keys strike smoothly but give enough resistance that you can be sure you hitting the keys.I am also a Linux user, so even after using it for only a short time, I know this is the perfect keyboard for editing in Vi (a text editor). The two USB ports on it are a real convenience to use other devices. My ONLY gripe with it, is that the USB ports are NOT USB 2.0 compliant, so they will not work with powered devices such as an external CD-ROM drive, or hard drive. Other than that, the keyboard is really easy to use, and a great investment. I look forward to many years using this keyboard. NOTE about seller USER SIDE: I screwed up my first seller feedback, and Amazon won't let you edit seller feedback, so I will leave it here. I give USER SIDE a 5 out of 5 rating for their fast shipping. Package was estimated to arrive in October, but came about two weeks early. I had an issue with the USB ports, but it turned out to be my own dumb error. Called USER SIDE customer support and they informed me that the dip switches in the keyboard are set to have the USB downstream ports on by default. I messed that up. Service rep was very friendly, and very helpful. I would definitely buy from USER SIDE again when I need another Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite 2. I hope they never stop selling them.

I'm a Windows user and the position of backslash is the only thing that bothers me (since \ means directory).

Great Keyboard and Comparision to the Model M,

This review is from: Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite2 USB (Black) (Personal Computers)
I have been using this keyboard for a couple of days now. I have a IBM Model M and I would say this keyboard is comparable. While this keyboard is not a mechanical keyboard like the Model M, the consistent feel and shape of the keys (sharply curved) make it quick and accurate to type on like the Model M. I can type faster on the Model M (perhaps due to the springy action), but the M is considerably louder and you have to press the keys harder which make me tired after not too long.I edit spreadsheets from time to time and use the F2 key, the Home, End and Insert keys. So far using the function key combination for these keys has been great. You do not have to reach as far as you would a more standard keyboard like the M, which I think once I'm used to it will make me faster and more accurate. As other reviewers have pointed out the lower right-hand arrow keys are disappointing on the HHKl2. They are at an angle compared to the rest of the keys and are depressed too far. There are some function key arrow keys however, which may serve better. All in all I am happy with this purchase.

Best keyboard,

I have used Happy Hacking Keyboard lite 2 for 4 years. I purchased this keyboard in Japan for approximately $30 and this keyboard still works perfectly. This keyboard is great because of its sophisticated UNIX friendly key setup. I personally love the Ctrl key position. Although I recommend purchasing Happy Hacking Keyboard professional if you are a programmer or gamer who use keyboard everyday, Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite 2 provides arrow keys which Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional does not provide. The cost performance and the quality are very nice. I definitely recommend this product for those who are looking for the best compact keyboard.

Keyboard with real nice key action!,

Programmer by trade so I spend a lot of time at the keyboard. The keyboard has the best action of any keyboard that I've had in the last 25 years. The keys are regular sized and spaced out nicely. Touch typing is very easy with this keyboard. I enjoy the small footprint and it allows me to center the keyboard directly in front of the monitor. Having to hold the function key for the f keys and backspace does take a bit to get use to. Keyboard has nice weight to it and is not flimsy.

Not much to add. It takes a bit of getting used to but is much better than the standard layout. I do find it very difficult to go back and forth between it and regular keyboards, primarily because of the backspace/delete key position. Another potential issue is that it is faily thick but I don't notice this when I am using it. Overall a great choice for a keyboard.
