Book Description

Every woman has that group of friends in her life ~ her "go to girls" The friends that she can turn to who "get it." The ones who are there for you no matter what. The ones who laugh with you and cry with you. The ones that will always be there. These are the women of Napa Valley.

Jamie is the editor-in-chief of Wine Lover's Magazine, a single mother and caretaker to her senile mother-in-law ~ a woman who thinks her daily caregiver is Dean Martin. Jamie is still recovering, financially and emotionally from the death of her husband several years earlier. And when she finds what could be the key to happiness, can she open the door and let it in? Or will her feelings of guilt and betrayal hold her back?

Danielle is a vintner and the divorced mom of two. She's basking in what she knows is going to be a successful launch of her new wines. Wines she created on her own after her divorce. But what she doesn't expect is for her daughter to come home with news that will shock her to her core. Will an old flame help her accept the changes that are coming and find the love she's been missing in her life for so long? Or will a tragedy that no one sees coming change their lives forever?

Kat is a sommelier, co-owner of a magnificent restaurant with her chef husband, and mother of a blended family. But is being deeply in love with your husband enough to get them through the teenage years, step-children and exes? And what happens when old faces return and she's faced with the knowledge that not everything is what you thought it was. What happens when she finds she was mad at the wrong person and finds out the "right one" was in the wrong? Can she forgive and move on? Can love overcome everything and truly bring a family together?

Alyssa is an artist and gallery owner with a secret of her own. One she was hoping would stay buried deep in her closet. But the time has come for her to put someone else first, to face the past and to deal with her demons. What she never expected to find was love and her "home."

No matter what is going on in their own lives, no matter the heartache or joy they're experiencing these four women are always there to love, support and encourage each other.

"This book is a clear example of the power of friendship and how it can last through the years. You will laugh with them and you will cry with them. It's the story of true and lasting friendships. It's the type of friendships that every woman should experience and a story we can hopefully all relate to.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED it. Can’t say that enough I guess. It is an amazing, beautiful book and I can’t wait to share it with my friends!!! A MUST READ!" Lori Gondelman from Lorisreadingcorner.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Vacation Read or Girlfriend Fans... August 14, 2011
Format:Paperback
Four women, each with struggles, bond through their Napa Valley wine connection.

Kat, bitterly divorced, newly married and blending two families while owning a restaurant.

Jamie edits a magazine for wine lovers. She single-parents her daughter and her dead husband's mother.

Alyssa paints in Napa valley, and attempts to continue to survive the secret that has stolen so much of her life.

Danielle, divorced painfully, sets out to compete with her ex-husband and find an outlet for her passion to make wine. But her daughters have plans and issues of their own.

Their stories weave in and out, the characters change and grow, and the friendships become lifelines.

If you love grown-up girlfriend stories you might want to look into this one. It's well-written and compellingly page turning as the characters lives go from bad to worse and then better than hoped for. It is a strong PG-13 or R-rated read with some steamy scenes, and some language.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wine and Women October 14, 2010
Format:Paperback
A contemporary novel addressing modern day problems faced by women. These are serious problems that are dealt with through laughter, friendship and tears. Those who are fans of the 'Sex and the City' or 'Desperate Housewives' generation will enjoy this read. It is chick lit., but has depth that separates it from the fluff stereotype. However, it isn't so heavy that it becomes depressing. There is a perfect mix of humor and realism that many readers will relate to.

If you can't relate to issues or friendship bonds commonly featured in contemporary novels and shows (i.e. Sex in the City), then this read probably wouldn't interest you. Like most reads, personal experiences will dictate whether a reader can connect with the issues faced by the characters.

Sometimes searching for new authors really pays off! I feel like I have hit the jackpot with this author! I will say that I did have to order it online- as it was not available in bookstores....but it was definitely worth the wait! Publishers- listen up!...get this one on the bookshelves at the local bookstores because fans of contemporary fiction and chick lit will buy it up in a hurry!) I feel like I have found a new author to enjoy and I sure hope she writes additional books in this genre! I immediately cozied up to these four friends! Although they came from varied backgrounds, they form such a strong bond of friendship and support one another through the challenges that life brings their way. What's not to like in this book? One thing- Only that it had to end! I wanted it to keep going! I am ready for a sequel! Readers- pour yourselves a glass of wine and settle back and get ready to enjoy! This is one that will keep you up all night reading! ...for avid readers...you KNOW that means it is a top notch/ must read book! Happy Hour

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the read May 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I would not recommend this book, there are better books out there to spend your time on. I read through it, wanting to know how it ended, but not really liking it at all. The story is cheesy, the writing is mechanical and without flow. The four main characters are bland, and at times their voices are indistinguishable from one another. The girly talk in the book just made me cringe. The book is full of cliche writing and dialogue. The story is superficial and any attempt at depth seems to fall flat. The ridiculous turn at the last chapter into christian literature was just too much. I am baffled by the 5 star reviews of this book (which were the reason I started to read it). I hate to say it, but the book is just terrible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than a happy "hour" December 13, 2009
Format:Paperback
Happy Hour is filled with the kind of warm-bodied characters I have come to expect from Michele Scott books, and all I can say is Bravo!

Each of the four main women are so sharply drawn and life is so skillfully breathed into their words and actions that it's hard to remember sometimes that they don't live right down the street. Even the secondary characters seem ready to reach out and hug readers.

Happy Hour, like life itself, isn't about a rosy existence. These are women coping with the rust and roadblocks that keep everyone's "life path" littered with obstacles. Nothing can be solved over one Happy Hour with friends, but sharing the story or the load for even a brief time can certainly make life less bumpy, and help bring new insights that can lead to better resolutions.

I took longer to read Happy Hour than I normally would simply because I saved it for the end of my day. For my personal Happy Hour. No matter how hectic the current schedules ran, regardless of how many times in the week people disappointed me or pushed my buttons, just knowing this book was waiting for my brief time of relaxation each day--the golden hour between 'last chore' and 'comatose'--kept me anticipating the opportunity to turn the next page. This book was worth staying awake for, and for me that's saying a lot!

This satisfaction with the story and characters is what will keep me looking for the next Michele Scott book, in whatever publishing niche she explores. Kudos, Michele!

More About the Author

I grew up knowing I wanted to be a writer. I'm very close to my family and friends and I love being around them. I also enjoy talking with and being around other writers because writing can be isolating.

The other passion in my life are my horses. They nourish the soul and in many ways keep me sane. It's a busy life. I have three kids, write full time, manage the house and sprinkle in a few more responsibilities in there and some sanity (or equine therapy) is needed.

I write books that I hope make people laugh a little, escape from the stress of day to day life and hopefully they feel a connection to my characters.

Something kind of funny and ironic about me is that I don't know how to type. I hunt and peck, so my first drafts have tons of mistakes. I really wish I'd taken typing in school.

I love to cook, but hate to clean--but love a clean house, so every Saturday I spend my day cleaning house. I'm a creative cook and can never create the same recipe twice and this makes it hard for me to get down the recipes in The Wine Lover's Mysteries just so.

Being a writer as a career is a very hard job. It takes a lot of patience, tenacity, a willingness to hear others say you suck, and a certain kind of masochistic personality because as I just pointed out--it's not easy. However, writing for me is like breathing. It's my life, like my family and my animals. It's who I am. It's my hope to connect with others through my writing. I hope I connect with you!
