From the VHS sleeve: Trudy, A Norwegian girl skater (Sonja Henie), follows womanizing bandleader Duke Sargent (Cesar Romero) to America, thinking his flirtations are serious. When she catches him with another woman (Ethel Merman), she finds comfort in the arms of his manager (Don Ameche), who in turn launches her career as a skating star. A romantic mix-up follows that leads to scandalous front-page headlines.

Sonja Henie leads an all-star-cast in "HAPPY LANDING"(1938). Co-stars include Don Ameche, Ethel Merman, Cesar Romero and Billy Gilbert. This musical has it all, everything from a faraway village in Norway, to Gay Paris and finally exciting nightlife in New York. The musical numbers are outstanding.

Forget the skating and the plot, for me the best part of the film is the musical speciality number, 'War Dance of the Wooden Indians', which features rare footage of Raymond Scott & his Quintette. Of particular interest and note is Scott's highly talented drummer, Johnny Williams, the late father of John Williams, the movie theme composer ( 'Star Wars', etc.). Pure magic.
