Book Description

November 11, 1999
Freemasonry began with a simple purpose. To make Good Men better Men, and to practice the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. In its nearly 300 years of formal existence, the fraternity has welcomed men from every walk of life. Commoners and Kings have enjoyed its fellowship and philosophies. These ideals have, over the last three centuries, often been set to verse and it is these poems and inspirational messages that are the purpose of this book.

Happy to Meet, Sorry to Part, is a collection of Masonic poems written by Freemasons, many of whom are well known in literary circles, while others are Masons for whom, time has erased all memory of their names. Perhaps what is most important is that their messages live on. In this volume are brief biographies and the melodic words of:

Rudyard Kipling
Robbie Burns
Dr. Robert Morris
Joseph Fort Newton
Arthur Edward Waite
Albert Pike
And Others

5.0 out of 5 stars What's in it for me?, March 8, 2000
This review is from: Happy To Meet, Sorry To Part: A Collection of Masonic Poems and Inspirational Fraternal Thoughts (Paperback)
Freemasons decribe in their own words what they get out of freemasonry. A unique insight into the peculiar secrets of a fraternity that offers no material advantage and unites men in the universal design of being happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Afternoon Delight: Poetic Inspiration, January 27, 2001
This review is from: Happy To Meet, Sorry To Part: A Collection of Masonic Poems and Inspirational Fraternal Thoughts (Paperback)
Dafoe has done it, again! This compilation of Fraternal poetry will be a great asset to any Masonic library. Wonderful coffee-table book and reference material. My sister gave me this book for Christmas and I finished reading it in one sitting! I was especially happy with "The Mother-Lodge," by Bro. Rudyard Kipling. I have always had a deep love for Poetry and I found this book to be very Inspirational! I sincerely hope Dafoe has more great books to offer us, in the future. Wonderful Collection of Verse.... Any chance of a Volume II hitting the shelves, soon? I always recommend this book to New Brothers or other individuals requesting a list of books about Masonry, because they have decided to Petition The Lodge.
