About Don Schenk
Don Schenk, author, musician, entrepreneur, and peak marketing strategist, has an unusual history that comes from his being fully self-employed, going back even to his high school years.
Don's parents, who met in art school, had a photographic darkroom at home, and they each played music for fun. They gave Don a Kodak Brownie camera when he was 5 years old, and began teaching him to play music at age 6 - skills he has turned into creative businesses over the past several decades.
While still in high school he began renting a teaching room at a local music store to become a self-employed music instructor, teaching several instruments. He also formed what became the most popular local teen rock band at that time. The band rented a large reception hall, and ran their own teen dances, attracting up to 2,000 kids each week.
That's when Don made a promise to himself to always be self-employed.
Over the years he has owned 6 businesses including a recording studio, a large photography studio, and a publishing business.
Then Everything Caved In
All was going well until about a dozen years after college, when a serious health issue, and a business problem almost put him out of business.
Once the health issue was past, Don began a constant quest to learn everything he could about sales and marketing. He read incessantly, asked other business owners what they did, and applied what he learned. The strategies worked! Business completely turned around.
Soon his business needed more space, so he added a large addition onto his building. Then to grow more, he bought the building next door. He created ideapage Publishing to teach the business-building marketing strategies he had learned so other business owners could duplicate his system.
A few years ago he sold the photography division of Don Schenk, Inc. so he could devote more time to teaching, writing, and conducting marketing workshops.
The strategies he teaches will work to increase your business too.
