Sounding so good remastered on CD!,
By
This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
Is this the only Turtles CD you need? Probably so. It's the only one I need. It's got all the best songs, the remastered sound is excellent, and the liner notes and packaging are top-notch. Everybody and their mother knows the smash hit "Happy Together" and most people know at least half a dozen of these other songs even if they don't know they're all by The Turtles. All the essentials are here: the four "me" songs: Let It Be Me, It Ain't Me Babe, She'd Rather Be With Me, and You Showed Me plus the four "you" songs: You Know What I Mean, You Baby, You Don't Have To Walk In The Rain, Can I Get To Know You Better. And then there's the "me and you" song, or should I say the "imagine me and you" song...
If you're a fan of sixties pop you need a Turtles CD in your collection. This one.

Good collection, but...,
This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
A better buy for a single disc Turtles hits collection is the 20-track Greatest Hits on Rhino. Every track on this one is included on that one plus six more, and the price is comparable. This isn't bad, but that one's got a little more for roughly the same price. Good tunes throughout!

The Best Sounding Turtles CD by far,
By Herman Noone "Herman" (Hong Kong) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
I bought this CD just for the newly remastered sound. Though I have the "20 Greatest Hits" released by Rhino Records but the sound quality of that isn't quite "clear". Now, released by Shout Factory with the newly remastered sound, the sound is "Crystal Clear". One thing I don't like is that they put only 14 tracks on it.

While I've never been a big big fan of these guys in particular, I do like now and then some old 60's music. I grew up listening to a lot of it because it's what my parents would play. I bought this for Outside Chance (the best song - and it was used in the Grave Danger episode of CSI so it made me like it even more), and the only other song I thought I knew was Happy Together. I actually realised that I knew a couple of other great songs like Elenore and She'd Rather Be With Me. Then I'm beginning to realise that I actually really like this group and though it's not the type of music I listen to often, it's great to put it in the player every now and then and bop around the house doing the vacuuming or something. It's actually great music. I didn't realise they had so many good songs, but they do and so I recommend this for any 60's fan or people who grew up listening to this kind of music because it will bring back a lot of memories of road trips etc. I like this a lot.

One Of The Great Groups Of Years Gone By,
By
This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
This is one of the groups of the 60's if you want something to remember, or learn about from back then. They had a lot of great hits along with Peter & Gordon, Chad & Jeremy, Herman's Hermits, Gerry and the Pacemakers, & the Lovin Spoonful, just to name a few. Don't take my word for it. Listen to the sample songs and buy it for yourself. I just happened to grow up in the 60's so I didn't have a problem loving every song. After you buy this you may want to try some of the other groups next. It becomes a Blast into the Past or for those like me, a trip down Memory Lane.

A nice collection,

This is a very good collection of the Turtles' biggest hits. Their lite, pop-rock was fun to listen too when I was a kid and still is! While some of the lyrics may not be the most profound, their music is enjoyable. My favorites are the classic "Happy Together", "You Baby," "She'd Rather Be With Me," "Elenore," and "It Ain't Me Babe."

Feel good hits from the 60's,

This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
These are the essential Feel-Good hits from the 60's. This cd features most of the Turtles happy songs. There are a couple of minor hits missing, but they're hardly missed from this collection. The Turtles had the great talent of producing happy, playful songs (Happy Together) as well as meaningful music (Eve of Destruction). The music of the 60's is definitely represented in this greatest hits collection.

Great 60's group from the past,

This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
The mastering of the music on this cd is horrible. Alot of the songs sound scratchy. Not much bass and the treble is very harsh. Do not buy this cd, or you'll be throwing your money away like I did. I would recommend buying "The Turtles 20 Greatest Hits", by Rhino records.
The Turtles deserve better than this. Don't buy cd's from Shout Factory.

Fun and Irony from Retro Group,
By Wil "GovTeacher" (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because I have alway loved the song 'Elenore' by the Turtles. Still, I found most of the songs entertaining though unfamiliar. The accompanying insert is quite entertaining as well, providing history and insights into the group and their motive for various lyrics. 'Elenore' was intended by the Turtles to be a flop to vent the group's anger at the artistic constraints imposed by the record label. Irony won out as the song became an popular hit. Now I appreciate it even more.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Happy Together: The Very Best of The Turtles (Audio CD)
Happy Together is one of my all time favorite songs. When I buy albums such as this from the sixties I usually do so for nostalgic purposes to recapture 1 or 2 old favorite songs from my youth. With most albums it turns out that there are only 1-4 good tunes from whatever 60's band. This album surprised me in that almost every song was a delight that stood on its own. It is an album I like to play in its entirety, not just for one or 2 picks. These guys were a talented group, great on melody, lyrics and good hooks. They're still out there perfroming too. I don't think you can go wrong with this purchase. Certainly better than most best of 60's group albums. It will give you lots of happy flashbacks.
