Bollywood 'While You Were Sleeping',

This review is from: Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (DVD)
I bought this movie because I love Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. My two favorite Bollywood actresses.I'm not really a fan of Salman Khan, and this movie didn't really help. The character was supposed to be a fun happy go lucky guy who just wants to be a star, but he came off as manipulative and annoying. He would lie, cheat, and steal to get to fame, and that's exactly what he did. But he did it in such a way where the audience was supposed to be on his side, when really I just couldn't stand it. Overall the movie wasn't that bad, but because I couldn't stand Salman Khan's character and couldn't understand how the other characters could come to love him, it lowered my rating to three stars. Aside from loving Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta in this movie, I also loved the two random appearances by Shahrukh Khan (complete with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai references). And the 'Piya Piya' number is stuck in my head. I loved that song and dance number.

A film about sacrificing love,

This review is from: Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000) (Hindi Film / Bollywood Movie / Indian Cinema DVD) (DVD)
The film has nothing special to offer, except for very very melodious songs by Anu Malik, two beautiful girls (Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee), who, at that point of time, were reasonably newcomers, and today, both are the top actresses in India. It was nice to watch the film, as an entertainer, and there are some funny scenes. But the film does not have some novel script which can capture you.Watch it if you are a fan of Salman, Preity and to some extent Rani, and want to have some good two-three hours.

Silly and boring,
This review is from: Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (DVD)
This movie was so out of touch with reality and, as a result, so silly. I feel I wasted three hours of my time watching this silly movie. I would definitely NOT recommend it. It may have Salman Khan and two leading ladies, but the concept of the movie was idiotic. I could not wait to view the ending so I could turn it off, put the DVD away, let dust grow on it and never see it again. I would not even give it to a friend--but maybe an enemy!

Average Bollywood,

This is compared to 'While you were sleeping'. It isn't a complete match but the overall drift is the same. A girl is rescued from a car accident and ends up in a coma. The rescuer pretends to the family to be her husband and comes to be accepted by them. He falls mutually in love with her best friend/almost sister. What happens when the rescued girl wakes? If you like Bollywood romance musicals you'll probably find this acceptable and average. Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerjee are watchable as usual. Salman was mostly fine. However I did cringe at a Michael Jackson -like high pitched shriek he did at times which was sounded oddly girlie coming from behind the crafted muscular 'alpha male' appearance he was also going for. There are a few catchy songs that I bothered to download and a few reasonable group dance sequences. There is also 2 brief cameos from Shahrukh Khan that have nods to other movies of similar theme points from his other movies. There was also a little 'comedy' here and there in short bursts that didn't fit the general feel of the movie and sat uncomfortably with it from my point of view - though the Indians do see to like this sort of over-the top interlude (usually around deceit and scams). Elsewhere on the Net it seems to mostly rate around average (5 out of 10) So this was fine and I'll hang onto it.

"While You Were Sleeping" -- The Hindi Version,

OK I haven't actually seen this film yet, and will do a real review after I do. But from the synopsis, this film is apparently a complete plot remake of "While You Were Sleeping," a fabulous romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. It's going to be tough to beat the original. Salman Khan's not my favorite actor but I like Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta so I'm giving this 3 stars on approval. :)Here's my question: did the producer clear the rights with the copyright holder of "While You Were Sleeping"? |
