Book Description

April 1991
In this lucid and entertaining book, Ellen Klages tells the story of Harbin Hot Springs form its earliest days as a gathering place for Native American shamans through the many, varied phases of its history...a spa for Victorian invalids, a boxer's training camp, a family resort and a hippie commune... to its current renaissance as a New Age community and spiritual center.

"Healing Waters, Sacred Land" is an inspiring case study of human dynamics told through the history of a very special place. Anyone interested in California's colorful past will love this thoroughly researched book, which covers a span of time starting Native American tribes "walking the hoop", Spanish Conquest, white settlement, Victorian spa culture.... all the way through the LSD movement & todays yoga workshop culture. Told in a series of amusing stories, this book was a absolute pleasure to read.
