5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD EVER, April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
This has to be the my favorite cd in my collection. If you'd like to get aquanted with ska, this is a great introduction. The Toasters are certainly the best ska band in America, and their horn section is famous. This is a MUST BUY for ANY ska fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, June 21, 2006
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
If you like funny, non-serious ska music, then you should definitely head on over to your local CD shop and give this disc a good listen. It's actually structured really well, and it's over-all an amazing CD, even aside from the humerous aspects of it. The horns alongside the guitars and his weird beyond weird vocals making one big explosion together just created a very unique CD. Definitely check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars the toasters are great, April 23, 2003

Hey, if you like ska you need the toasters. They started way back in 1982 and they are pioneers to ska in America. This CD is just plain good. If you can see these guys in concert, DO IT! The lead singer is the only one left from the origional band BUT they still rock. The brass section smokes- the crowd was skankin'(dancing) more to this band whom they'd never heard of then Reel Big Fish- that says a lot. The sax/trumpet/trombone is money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ska EVER, February 13, 2002
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
This is definitely one of the best ska CDs ever recorded. I've listened to everything from 'Memorial' by Don Drummond to 'Good Luck' by Big D & the Kids Table. This CD is worth owning just for 'I Wasn't Going to Call You Anyway,' but the rest of the album is just as good (Don't Come Running, anyone??)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Disc, August 22, 2001
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
Hard Band For Dead is a good cd. I can't say that it has the same quality sound and songwriting as Dub 56 or New York Fever, nonetheless, it does have 'I Wasn't Going To Call You Anyway' which is, in my opinion, one of the best if not the best ska song ever written.

5.0 out of 5 stars possibly the best, from what a ska band ought to be!, July 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
The Toasters always put out great records, this is comming from a non ska fan (tired of too much repetition, and what appears to be a competition among bands to out do each other). This one is solid throughout. Nicely composed and beautifully produced. I was first turned onto the Toasters probably more than ten years ago, and despite some personnel changes, they keep chugging along, creating imaginitive music. Not just for Ska fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, September 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
This album is a display of the musical talent of the Toasters. They are not like other ska bands, because their songs are not too hyped up, and they do not all sound the same. If you liked the Toasting (raping) on "Dub 56", you will like this album, as they let Ranx loose again. This is a great album, and I suggest that any true fan of Ska, that is, not someone that just liked a few Real Big Fish songs, will be very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album put out by the Toasters!, September 22, 1998
This review is from: Hard Band for Dead (Audio CD)
If not the best album by the Toaster it certainly is one of them. This album has alot of variety from song to song and like some other Toaster albums they have a few instrumental songs and also do some covers to old songs. They have thrown in a remake of their earlier song "Talk is cheap"and it is much better than the original version. The Toasters continue to be one of the best ska bands ever.If you have any interest in ska music whatsoever or want to find out about it this is a great album to own. They have brought me many great moments and I'm sure they will to you too.
