4.0 out of 5 stars Missing An Important Track, July 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hard-Boiled (1992 Film) (Audio CD)
Although this Hard Boiled CD is worth every penny, know in advance that the song Tequila plays in the opening scene of the film is not present on this CD.

The rest of the music, however, is perfect. Many subtleties lost in the video and DVD print are crystal clear here. It's easy to appriciate the similarities between this John Woo soundtrack and Face/Off. Suggest it to your action-fan friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Boiled: Not the egg, but the soundtrack, December 28, 2009

This review is from: Hard-Boiled (1992 Film) (Audio CD)
For starters, this film had "instant classic written all over it;" this was John Woo's best - in my opinion - Hong Kong film.

Now, on to Michael Gibbs and his talents.

Mr. Gibbs delivers a very nice score - complete, at that - to this film; this score consists of synthesizers, oriental percussion, and some saxophone elements.

I guess there was no room for an electric guitar...unless you listen very carefully to track 3, AKA: "Red Car Boogie."

It is funny to me how this is a Hong Kong film, yet the soundtrack was only made in the UK under MUTE records a year later.

By the way, some of the music on this CD could perhaps be related/connected to some of the material from the 1991 film, "Iron & Silk" - by "some," I mean around 15% to 25% of this material.

What is also interesting is that the jazz tune performed by Tequila, or Chow Yun-Fat, is not on here...I guess the executive producer of the soundtrack did not find it interesting.

Nonetheless, I would seriously consider this soundtrack to fans of this film or Mr. Gibbs, as both its action-style cues and suspenseful moments may leave you wanting more.
