I was skeptical. After purchasing and returning a few iPhone 4 cases, and being on wait-list after wait-list for them, I've become quite skeptical. This case is amazing. It's two piece design makes it easy to slide onto the phone. The color isn't as dark as it appears in the picture. Thank goodness for that! The deep boring maroon hue had me worried. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package to a VIBRANT CHERRY RED. Just love this color. Unique and easy to hold. The divots (indentations) in the outside of the case look more pronounced in the product shot than they actually are. They are like little rests for the pads of your fingers. Pure heaven! My other concern was that the case was going to be soft. This is no flimsy silicone case. It is hard to the touch, which I prefer. It is also not very thick, as to not add too much thickness to the world's thinnest smart phone. It also is very lightweight as to not add any substantial weight to your iPhone. I do not know the people of Hard Candy at all, and this is the first product I've purchased from them, but I can tell you it is great. The material won't get caught coming in or out of a pocket- watch out for those silicone cases that that tend to take your $20 bills along with them. Well worth every penny.

While I haven't tried every case, I undertook the requisite research while trying to protect my new iPhone 4. I scoured google, amazon, ilounge and obviously youtube. While there aren't a lot of cases out yet this one seemed the best as far as my needs were concerned, both protection-wise and aesthetically. It does not protect the front glass so if that's a factor for you then you will need either another case or will need to put a screen protector on it. However, I used an iPhone 3G for two years and never once had a scratch on the glass (I did, however, keep it away from my keys, change and handled with relative care) so I don't think you really need to worry about scratching the glass, unless you throw your phone around.

With that said, this is a great case. It is made of plastic and has two thin foam pads on the inside that help keep the phone cushioned. It will help alleviate scuffs and nicks to the metal sides and also the back glass (and various buttons/switches) but it is not meant to protect on drops of more than a foot or two (especially on concrete). It would be better than nothing, but again, these type of cases are great for keeping the phone scuff-free, but I wouldn't just throw the phone around either. The phone works well within the case but as the other reviewer mentioned it's a bit hard to get to the on/off button as well as the silent switch. Nothing too difficult but requires a little more dexterity (it won't annoy you, though, and this is probably a good thing; if it didn't enclose them so well they would be more apt to be hit by impact).

The only minor problems I see with this case was there was a little excess glue on the inside where the foam was applied to the plastic. It didn't interfere with the case or iPhone, and once the case is closed you won't see it (and it might have just been on mine, not every one). Also, the opening to the back camera/light was a millimeter too small so the metal ring is slightly blocked (BUT the camera/light are in no way affected, it's purely cosmetic and you would be hard pressed to see what I'm referring to). The microphone and speakers are unaffected by the case.

The plastic's texture and especially the round indentations of the case help for keeping it in your hands (unlike some smooth plastic cases I've held before). It looks great and isn't too bulky. The bottom slides off in case you want to hook it up to a dock, or have an aftermarket iPhone/USB cable connector that is wider than normal.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this case but be careful when putting it on the first time. The ring/silent switch sticks out and when you're sliding the phone inside the case the plastic wants to hang on the switch (on the two openings on the top left of the case for the ring/silent switch and volume up/down buttons). I used my finger to push the case outward a little, allowing the phone not to catch on it. It's minor and probably won't hurt your phone's switch, but I wouldn't jam it on because if it hangs it could theoretically damage the ring/silent switch.

Lastly, this case completely encloses the sides (and back) of the phone so you don't have to worry about touching the antenna and causing the "death grip" issue.

** UPDATE: I've used this case now for seven or eight months and the case will slightly scratch the metal around the volume buttons. What happens is when you're sliding the main part on, the mute switch catches on the plastic and causes it to become jagged. The jagged edges then scratch the metal a little. They should have had one large opening for the mute switch and volume buttons (instead of two separate ones), alleviating this problem. So be careful as this case will eventually scratch your iPhone ever so slighty.

I love the bubbles on this thing. It's so much more pronounced and pretty than a regular smooth case. Great color and great design. The rubber strips inside keep my iPhone from sratching, and I love the way the case slides on and off! I'm definitely replacing this case with another Hard Candy case once it wears out.
