What a sham of a book. This should be retitled,
Hardcore Collections: A financial guide for felons and hustlers. I returned it after wasting $10 and 30 minutes of my time reading it.

This book tells you nothing about collections that you haven't already seen in the movies & with your mental sterotypes. It borders on criminality ... I recommend it to convicts & gangsters.

This is a how-to book on how to be a bookie and collect the money when they don't pay up. It even goes so far as to describe how to physically intimidate them to pay. This is disgusting. Please stay aaway from this at all costs...

There are very few debt collection techniques that can be used in this book. Unless you care to get fired in the next week for violating the FDCPA, stay away.

The reader will benefit from first-hand knowledge,

This book is very well written, and the author isobviously college-educated, despite specializing in a risky-area of collections, and treading a thin line between exerting pressure on debtors and getting into trouble from law enforcement for crossing the line on socially acceptable behavior. It's an easy read, humorous, insightful, but obviously... making the transition from book to reality is a big step that few readers will attempt. My guess is that this book is for the experienced collector, who wants to take the next step, and open up his own collections agency, as opposed to operating in the mainstream, or being employed by someone else. It reveals a part of what goes on in the marketplace, Clearly, the author knows his stuff, has made a career author's business plan and collections strategies, as

In my opinion, this book is ridiculous and suggests doing things that are highly questionable.

Yeah every collector, wants to be considered a hard noised, no nonsense COLLECTOR. I won't dog the author of this book David DeMercurio, because I kind of knew what I was getting myself into before I purchased Hard-Core Collections, from Amazon. I found about 60 to 50 percent of this book, actually informative. This book took me about 2 months to dissect. I had to really consider what sound collections advice I was receiving, ethical, verses hurting people, and loosing the ability to learn how to collect. This book really challenges your morals and ethics. I wouldn't advise reading this book unless you have honest practical good morals about yourself. This book will challenge, tempt you to want to go beyond what is considered legal collection procedures. I would only recommend this book, as a last ditch effort to find a way to stay on top of your grind, as collector. Just know you better be thinking, and don't step to far outside of what your agency, or company considers appropriate collections tactics. In my experience a small percentage of debtors will try to burn you if it means they can cut their debt. Also your agency, or company will turn there back on you if it means them by passing paying the law suit you created, because of your using questionable tactics they encouraged to get the change. As a collector it feels the only person to loose is you, while everyone around you, your agency - company, and debtors have everything to gain. Peace.

Personal collections, not for professional business,

When I bought this book, I thought it would be for ideas on how to do collections in my professional office setting. I was dead wrong in my assumptions. It is more of a mafia "pay back, back door" type collection antics.
What I did find, was that this book definitely gave me some laughs, evil thoughts of payback to my enemies and a whole new view on how things are done back door to get personal debts paid up. To sum it up, this book made me feel like breaking many laws and I found myself having to refrain.

The author suggests that the collector enlist methods to get cash that are pre-FDCPA.
Such as: 1. personally going to the place of employment to harass him or her. 2. Vandalizing the debtors girlfriends car. 3. using a sling shot with BB's to crack the debtors windows 4. and when contracting with clients to not give them your real name and no signed contract because you don't want to be found. the list of illegal methods of getting cash goes and on and on. There isn't a spec of information that a law abiding person can use.. I wanted info on what to say on the phone and this has nothing. Amazon needs to raise their standards and ban this book now!. |
