This review is from: Hard Dying Men: The Story of General W.H.L. Wallace, General T.E.G. Ransom, and Their Old Eleventh Illinois Infantry in the American Civil War (1861-1865) (Paperback)
The book will appeal to a limited readership, primarily military history buffs, with an interest in Illinois and its part in the Civil War. It is very detailed and descriptive, well researched, it covers Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Vicksburg, Sabine Crossroads and the fall of Mobile. What makes it of particular interest is that it is the only book on the Civil War that folows the life of General Thomas Ransom and General William Wallace. It chronicles the Eleventh Illinois Infantry from the first skirmish to the final battle.
