5.0 out of 5 stars Hard To Explain /NYC Cops, November 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Hard to Explain / New York City Cops (Audio CD)
This was my first taste of the Strokes, after having them recommended to me by total strangers. While the A-side (if you will), "Hard to Explain" didn't grab me at first, two or three listens later, I'm hooked on their alternately garage-y and post-punk sound. The B-side, "New York City Cops," which was cut from the US release, is a blistering rocker, starting with some snotty screams that would make Iggy Pop proud. I recommend this for those who have purchased the US release and would like to hear the song that was, unfortunately, omitted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only CD Single I've Ever Bought, January 14, 2002
This review is from: Hard to Explain / New York City Cops (Audio CD)
Having been caught up in The Strokes hype, and completely impressed by their debut full-length album IS THIS IT, I just had to buy this single so I could have the much-touted "best song off the whole friggin' album," as most people claim it to be. It's obviously the most punk-like and aggressive song in their repertoire, but in my humble opinion it ain't the best. I'd vote THE MODERN AGE or SOMEDAY for that honor. I do hope at some point this is added back to the US release of IS THIS IT. I understand the reason behind keeping it off the album, but I think any intelligent person should be trusted to be able to differentiate between a young person's rebellious view of authority, and the truly heroic and selfless acts of the NYPD. For now I'll just record it on the end of the tape of IS THIS IT I've already made.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Strokes Kick Tushee!!!, January 5, 2005
This review is from: Hard to Explain / New York City Cops (Audio CD)
The Strokes rock not only on their discs but on the stage as well. i have seen them live in may of 04 and it was the best concert ive ever been to. would i recomend their cds? yes. but not only because they are my favorite band, but because these are some hard hitting tracks not only on Hard to Explain/ NYC Cops (which by the way are conveintly the 2 best strokes songs) but all of their cds: Is this it, RoF(Room on Fire), and reptilia single (Modern Girls and Old Fashioned Men is on that too). i strongly suggest purchasing this and everyother cd by The Strokes. Word julian fab albert nick and nikolai!
peace out- [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars great music, February 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hard to Explain / New York City Cops (Audio CD)
hard to explain and new york city cops in my opinion are the best songs on their album "this is it". This single is a really good buy because the new release of "this is it" dose not contain new york city cops because of sept 11. That is such an insane reason to cut the song, so if you have the new copy of "this is it" get this great single.
