Grace, grit and gumption,
By
This review is from: Hard Faith (Hardcover)
These three words describe a man named Daniel M. Berg. He was a like a Father to me. In addition he was a good friend and trained me for the ministry. Having witnessed the majority of Dan's testimony as a third party, I was amazed to read the honest portrayal of a man who held to his integrity like Job, and lived what he preached. To most of us on the outside, it appeared to us as it must have looked to Job's friends; that somehow God was punishing him. I am sorry to add that most of us found ourselves "miserable comforters" as well.
Having read this book by one of the heroes of my young life, he stands even higher in my esteem now. God was teaching him more during that time than he wanted to know. The lessons shared through these short number of pages is a condensed version of much of what he preached distilled with tears through the filter of grief. Charles Spurgeon once wrote, "David was like a rose. If you crushed him, he gave off a sweeter fragrance. He was also like an olive, when you crushed him, more of the Holy Spirit flowed out of him." This book goes against the grain of most of the "feel good" preaching that we hear so often from pulpiteers pandering positivity. Dan, Doris, and the family learned hard faith first hand. In the pulpit, Dan was a master communicator, and his writing proves to be just as rich in illustration. Dan's book calls the believer to learn lifes lessons from God first-hand because in some cases, we may find that He is all that we've got. I consider it a priviledge to have called Dan my friend and strongly urge you to buy a copy of this book. It will provide understanding, hope, and healing for all who read it.

Heartfelt Truths,
By
This review is from: Hard Faith (Paperback)
Dan Berg was also a father to me, an inspiration, and helped me in building the foundation of my faith. Dan and his wife gave me the opportunity and blessing to live and become a part of their home, their family. This book only brings to light a small part of the truth of the spiritual warfare they have fought and were victorious in. I am honored to know both Dan, Doris and both of their children. Even in times where I find I doubt my faith Dan reminds me of the truths and promises of the Lord. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt their faith has been rocked, as I have at times in my life. It will not only inspire you but allow you to see the true power of the Lord.

An incredible journey of faith,
This review is from: Hard Faith (Paperback)
Hard Faith is an extremely enjoyable read. The thing that I find most attractive about this book is the author's ability to communicate his experiences in an honest and heart-felt manner. The expression "more is caught than taught" applies to this book. Without being preachy, he is able to communicate his experiences in a way that inspired me in my own journey.

Thoughtful page turner,
This review is from: Hard Faith (Hardcover)
I sat down and read this from cover to cover in one sitting. Daniel Berg gives his testimony for looking to Christ in the hard times we all face. His is a gentle, measured description of faith and marriage that weathers illness, betrayal, and hardship.
Reading it brought up reflections of how the Lord has used trials in my own life to bless me. You will like this book. It could put your own troubles in perspective, and help you depend on Jesus.

Unconditional Love,
By Karen Fisher "accepted in the beloved" (Huntington Beach, California) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hard Faith (Paperback)
Hard Faith is a real life example of unconditional love. In the "me first" culture in which we are living today I'm sure that 999 out of 1000 husbands would have left and moved on to greener pastures, and probably been encouraged by friends and family to do so. But Dan chose to stay and- desperately clinging to Jesus-found a way to reach into his wife's torment and show her the way back. I loved the book.
