Welcome back, Doyle!,

What a great return to bluegrass for Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver! After six years without a secular album, and too many southern-style gospel albums that took him further and further away from the bluegrass sound, Doyle is back with a vengeance, as well as with the best vocal blend I've heard from this group in years. Great songs, fine instrumentals, and super singing make this the best Quicksilver album in ages. This is solid, traditional bluegrass, and the singing can't be bettered. This is what Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver are all about!

True Appalachia,
This review is from: Hard Game of Love (Audio CD)
DLQS is a remarkably honest band. It doesn't feel like they're trying to produce incredible music from a certain place and time. But they do just that. The words are truthful, catchy, and not in the least pretentious. The instruments coo under the watch of the band's many age groups. I had the opportunity to see Doyle Lawson at a Prairie Home Companion taping and that was it, we came home and ordered many CDs that weekend! Some bluegrass-type music is created from outsiders who haven't lived the life it truly takes to make this music on its deepest level. Lawson is from rural Eastern Tennessee and it comes through in his wonderful tunes.
