Great Multiplayer fun,
By
This review is from: Hard Hitter Tennis (Video Game)
My wife and I play Hard Hitter Tennis and as a multiplayer game, its fun. The game allows us to setup how many matches and sets per match as well as the type of court you can play on.Single player mode is also fun but I thought there could be more to this game than just ranking. The player can either pick a pre-existing tennis player or create one. The pre-existing ones have certain strengths and weaknesses that affect how they play on the court. By playing matches against different level opponents, you can gain ranking on the world tour by beating them. Depending on how many sets and matches you win determine how much of the total purse you'll win. The amount of money you win overall appears to determine your ranking. This sounds great, but why money and not skill? Or I thought this game would be better if you could do something with that money you earn from winning. The game could have been much more robust if you could do that. Hard Hitter Tennis has 4 play modes. They are: Exhibition: Play single or double player mode. Play from 1 to 4 players playing single or doubles. You can set the number of matches and sets per match. Great if you just want to play 1 quick game or if you have friends over and you can play doubles. Training: Training mode, which is essential for playing this game properly. The instructor, I found, was a little too harsh for me in training. If I made a mistake, I thought the instructor was going to jump down my throat (Hey, this is only a game people!). If I missed a shot, the instructor actually implied I was stupid, imagine that? Overall, don't skip the training mode since it will give you the basics in serving, hitting and volleying as well as advanced swinging and serving. Mini-Games: I thought the mini-games were entertaining, but really didn't add anything to the overall playability. I pretty much skipped playing the min-games, because they just got old pretty quick. Plus they are 1 player games and only focus on your ball control. Overall, a great game to own, but not the best that is out there.

I'll admit I haven't tried any of the other tennis games for PS2 (I still prefer to be on an actual tennis court rather than home in front of the TV) but I picked up this game on a whim one day. While the graphics are fairly simplistic and the world tour game mode only allows you to play tie break "matches", I still find it to be an enjoyable game, especially for the reasonable price. The controls are easy to master and, I found, you can actually come up with some creative shots and angles (they don't teach you these in the training session) that help keep the game a little more realistic (things like drop volleys, diving volleys, wicked cross court forehand angles, etc). I also like that there is a good variety of courts/surfaces to play on (including indoor and night matches) and that the play is adaptable to each surface (meaning, the play on grass is faster than on clay; shots that skim the lines on one surface are out on others). Bottom line, if you want something that is high in graphics and "reality" and you want to play as, or against, actual tour players (although the last time I checked, Sampras, Kournikova, Hingis, Rafter, and Kafelnikov were either retired or on extended leave from the sport), this is probably not the game for you. However, if you want a game that provides for some decent challenges (playing against a skill level 8 player in the finals of Wimbledon), that won't cost you an arm and leg, and will provide you with hours of enjoyment, this game is a good pick up.

A Great Tennis Game,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hard Hitter Tennis (Video Game)
Hard Hitter Tennis is a great game for anyone who enjoys tennis. This game really gets you going and has great tournament modes on "World Tour". If you want to just have fun, then you can do World team Tennis which is fun also. They give you very many options, and although they are fictional characters, it is a very good game. I reccomend it.
