5.0 out of 5 stars A third grader with learning difficulties befriends a spider, September 17, 2001
This review is from: The Hard Life of Seymour E. Newton (Paperback)
Ann Bixby Herold's The Hard Life Of Seymour E. Newton is a short novel for young readers, peppered with black and white illustrations, about a third grader with learning difficulties who befriends a spider that he names Seymour. Seymour has problems too; his web keeps getting torn, and he must rebuild it as often as necessary. Meanwhile, the boy also takes heart when he learns that his father copies with learning problems similar to his own. Touching and memorable, The Hard Life Of Seymour E. Newton is especially recommended for any child who is having a hard time absorbing the tricks, techniques, and sheer work needed to help compensate for a learning disability.
