My husband and I and our two children have had the pleasure and honor of knowing Justin personally. I'm going to keep this review of the book short and sweet, because the book will speak for itself I'm sure. The book is fabulous...funny, poignant, and emotionally it will take you by the scruff of the neck and make you sit up to notice what's going on in your life and around you.

Okay...enough about the book. By meeting and knowing Justin, our lives have changed. They weren't necessarily bad before...just typically American - busy, congested, haphazard, meaningless as can be. Then we met Justin - a whirling, swirling mass of energy and encouragement. What happened? We became better people. Better citizens. Way better Christians. He's truly one-of-a-kind in that he is young and actually does live by the Golden Rule. Yeah, he's intense and "out there", but is anyone else stepping up to the plate and paying attention to what our young people are going through? Are other youth ministers reaching this many young hearts? Nope. So we can only sit back and say, 'Wow - if this guy can do it, we can too." So thank you for that, Justin. Thank you for sharing your story and the story of just a few of the thousands you've touched. Thank you for improving my life, my husband's life, and our children's lives. In this crazy world, what a gift.

The recent HBO documentary, "Hard as Nails", was an introduction to the life of Justin Fatica and his "Hard as Nails" youth ministry. If you have seen that documentary, then you already know that Justin preaches with an intensity appropriate to the power of the love of God. When you are on fire with the Spirit, as Justin is, sometimes you just have to scream and shout about it.

With this book, we have a chance to delve deeper into the heart of the "Hard as Nails" ministry. We gain a clearer and more personal picture of the individual youths that it serves. We hear the stories of real American teenagers struggling with today's real challenges, many of which are horrific and devastating. The teens we meet come from different backgrounds and different circumstances, but what they all have in common, initially, is lack of exposure to the radical love of God. This love is the lifeline that Justin shares; and he shares it in an energetic and convincing way that effectively grabs the attention of today's American youth - youth who are accustomed to being bombarded by competing loud and negative messages on a daily basis.

This book should be read by any teenager who has ever felt isolated in their pain, and by any adult who wants to gain a better understanding of the spiritual struggles of today's American youth.

After completing the book, Hard as Nails, I realized what a sheltered a life I lead. Justin gave us a glimpse of what these teens and young adults are dealing with and going through on a daily basis. This book should serve to wake us up to take action...no matter how small...it is better than doing nothing at all. Justin writes the way he speaks, leaving no question of his mission. That is the way the kids need to hear the message too...no gray area...they are loved and cared for when they feel the most unlovable. More power to this young man and his ministry...at least he is doing SOMETHING!

It is inspiring to see & hear a young man encouraging our youth to not be just good but GREAT! Justin gives them a focus that is not all about themselves & the secular world. There is so much hopelessness in today's world, it is refreshing to hear someone who is full of hope, love & encouragement.
Take notice our CATHOLIC Leaders, Justin is willing & able to connect with our young people. What a blessing that we should utilize to the fullest.

This book delivers an honest and powerful view of what is happening with teenagers in this country. Parents of all backgrounds must read this book to get a more honest understanding of the challenges facing their teens everyday. Look forward to a seminar for adults and parents to help relay this message.

If you enjoy reading or hearing about people doing great things for others, this is the book for you! I had the pleasure to first hear about Justin Fatica when I came across his documentary on HBO. I was amazed that someone, especially a Catholic, ministered to the youth with such a passionate and "in your face" style. I thought it was amazing! Someone is finally out there that understands that you have to be loud and full of energy to be able to get today's teens attention, and that he did! Honestly, the first day I got the book I had to finish it because I just could not put it down. To hear about a journey with an even better ending and a great future ahead of it awesome. Hard as Nails ministry helps troubled teens and adults find guidance through Christ! Its amazing to hear about what kind of struggles people go through today, rape, cutting, abuse, loneliness, drugs....its a true eye opener. This book made me remember that, why should we sit there and complain and whine about petty things when there are people out there who face these problems, we should be grateful for the life we have and cherish it! All I'm saying is buy this book....its an amazing true story!

Everyone needs a hug, and you will find a warm embrace between the pages of this book.

Unlike other books, this books does not only describe what has already happened, but what is happening. Here you will find Justin Fatica who has dedicated his life to reaching out to hurting people either individually or in groups. He looks in your eyes and lets you know that someone cares. He cares, others care and Jesus cares.

Anyone who has been hurt by this world will find a reason to continue living, continue giving. It's not easy, but you don't have to do it alone. Justin and his Hard As Nails Ministry lets you know that there are others who can give you real hugs.

I know because Justin was there for me and my family when our son and brother was taken from us at Virginia Tech on 4/16/2007.

With the fervor greater than any evangelical preacher, Catholic youth minister Justin Fatica is winning souls for the Church with his unorthodox style and Spirit-filled love for America's youth. It's high time the Church embrace young warriors like Justin who speak to the younger generation far more effectively than many of the clergy.
