Book Description

A damsel in distress...

The day of a young woman's wedding should be the happiest day of her life, but for Aylen Ware, it is the worst. Raised from a young age in a secret splinter sect of the Fundamentalist Mormon Church, Aylen has spent her life suppressing her true self and living in constant fear of violence and abuse. The Elders of the church claim that she has been chosen to be the eighteenth bride of a man three times her age and renowned for his cruelty, but Aylen has other ideas. Mere minutes before her wedding, she runs, knowing that she will fail in her flight unless she can find someone to help her...

An unlikely prince...

Half-naked and passed out drunk on a motel bed, Carter Hudson doesn’t seem like a knight in shining armor. Covered in tattoos and piercings, and distinctly disheveled, he frightens Aylen more than a little bit... but appearances can be deceiving. As Aylen runs with Carter's help, she discovers that beneath the rough surface is a scarred young man who has had his own curses and triumphs--and that he is full of surprises. Like his music. And his money. And his fame. Oh...and also his internationally acclaimed rock band. Still, as the two grow closer Aylen discovers they are more alike than not, and finds her feelings for him changing from the wary...to the wicked.

A fairy tale ending...?

But Aylen's past will not let go easily: men from the Church are tracking her, determined to take her back to the cult and a life of misery and servitude. Will the bond between her and Carter be enough to escape the evil that follows her, or is her curse so strong that not even love can defeat it?

Hard Rock Remix is a stand-alone novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great rock romance from Ms. Lore! October 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow!!! Here's what I loved most about this book without spoilers:
1. It was a stand alone book. I am fed up with books that are complete cliff hangers where you end up paying $$ to complete the story...this is NOT one of those.
2. Great characters...and beloved characters from the previous book in this series. It was wonderful reading Carter's story.
3. Rock romance...what can I say? I am a total sucker for them :)
4. This story was COMPLETELY different from the first. Ms. Lore is not a cookie-cutter author creating the same story with different characters. I was amazed at the different pov's the heroines had in each book.
I can't wait for December to read another band member's story!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a romance...And barely three stars January 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Where do I even start????? How about what happened to Carter???Apparently something happened between this book and the last to make him go on a soul finding trip. But what was it????? First book leaves us with a happy go lucky Carter but book two opens with him passed out!!!

We so needed Carter's POV in this book!!!!!

Book had too many flashbacks of Aylen' s story. I started skimming them. Too much of book was about her.

MINOR SPOILERS....

Author failed to tell us what was up with the prescription drug bottle Carter had. Despite learning more about Carter's past, there were still gaps in the story. It seemed he wasn't happy with the direction his life had taken but nothing was done about that. It was mentioned that he didn't know if he could do what was coming up in his life(assume acting) but, it was never mentioned again. Even the ending leaves you with questions. Was that really a HEA??? Not very powerful one.

2.0 out of 5 stars the first one is better October 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was really looking forward to Carter's story but unfortunately he got ripped in the heroine dept. Aylen was so wimpy and the storyline was so unbelievable. Carter was his same sexy and compassionate self but he had to put up with a virgin who ran away from a cult on her wedding day. (why wasnt the cult reported to the police since she left behind children that were being abused?)

She did not come across as someone likable, and their interaction did not work for me. The whole storyline did not work at all. It was sad to see that Carter will not have the same terrific relationship that his brother Kent had in the first book.....very disappointing....

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but it struggles as well April 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book but when I think too much about it there is a lot that needs work as well. However, the basic premise of recovering addict rocker meets completely sheltered young women escaping a patriarchal extreme religious sect is awesome enough to pull me though.

Also, the characters are wonderful and believable. The romance is reasonable, passionate, and compelling.

Therefore the heart of the book is good enough for me to live with the surrounding issues...you may not be able to do so.

Issues:

1. How easily the people Aylen was escaping found her.
2. Why Carter didn't just call the damn police at some point way earlier?
3. We get zero follow up after the main confrontation with the sect.
4. How could Aylen not get her sister out. So, really the book just ended too soon.
5. Who would leave her alone ever? They (famous band) have to security/bodyguards. So, therefore things seem like unnatural plot devises.
6. She would have been way less literate based on the information we know.
7. Cum. Ewww. Come is very. Please, use this word instead. Please.
8. The Trevor meander which exist mainly to set up another book.

And yet... I really liked it because the dialogue and characters are so good. I have read the first book in the series. I had the same mixed feelings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, love love...., Oh Carter, sigh!! October 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Oh, this was soooooo good!!! I absolutely loved this book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and read the book in (almost) one sitting (had to feed the family). This book surpassed my expectations by a mile. It had EVERYTHING! I really enjoyed Carter in the first of The Lonely Kings series, but now I am totally in love with him. I also fell in love with Aylen ("Anna"). What a strong, strong girl.

I live in Salt Lake City and am surrounded by the LDS (Mormon) religion (not a member myself) and have some knowledge of Aylen's background. Mind you, the Fundamentalists are far removed from the LDS church, who do not support polygamy, so please don't judge all Mormon's based on this story, even though I am not personally a fan, because the Fundamentalists are in a world of their own. I think Ava did a great job of explaining how things run within the sect. I am not sure what Ava's personal experience is, but she did an amazing job. If you knew how brain washed these people are you would understand how strong Aylen is and how HUGE it was for her to leave and to let Carter in. As mentioned, I fell in love with Carter in this book. He was already on the right path in the first book after his brother Kent meets Rebecca, bu he really grew as a person after meeting Aylen and I think she is absolutely perfect for him. He needed someone like her, who treats him as a person, and not as a rock star. He needed someone who needs him as much as he needs them.

I, without hesitation, recommend this book and can't wait for the next one.
