This review is from: The Hard Sell (Encore) (Audio CD)
This is another collaboration between two great talents. For 79 minutes, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist trade blows, bouncing musical ideas off each other in a steroid spinning romp.
There is 60s soul, 70s dance, and 80s techno, sometimes on top of one another. Like most mixes by these two crate pirates, Hard Sell starts at an intensity level most other albums climax at and never lets up. It really is a non-stop dance party, but instead of the usual THUMP-BASH, THUMP-BASH, that you hear in too many clubs, this is filled with amazing music and amazing segues. Almost any genre you can name is weaved in, if only for a few seconds. This is litterally a buffet of sound that takes up an entire room.
My main gripe here is that the notes don't name the sample sources. I know that most sane Americans are happy with the mix itself, but for obsessive album freaks like me, straining the eyes reading distographies and chewing on the corners of record covers, I want to know what all this music is so I can go buy it. Buy it both because it is so good, and so I can own some more records that these guys own.
I LOVE THESE GUYS. WHY MUST THEY TORMENT ME?
Um......ok. I'll behave.
