Our first introduction to Omar,
By
This review is from: Hard Times in the Land of Plenty (Audio CD)
Hard Times is Omar's first major label release for Columbia and he probaly got signed on due to a certain somebody named Stevie Ray Vaughn. The title track got some airplay on MTV (back when MTV actually showed videos and not second rate garbage as Blink 182's Drummer and Wife) which got me interested to buy this album. The album is chock full of some of that Louisana via Texas hoodoo blues and rock with highlights such as the Howling Wolf soundalike, Don't You Know That I Love You, Creedence type of rock such as Shadow Man, and You Ain't Fooling Nobody and tex mex sounding Don't You Rock Me The Wrong Way. Double Trouble keyboardist Reese Wynans helps out as well. Tastefully recorded, it's one of the undiscovered gems of the 80s. Grade B+

Raw Texas Blues,

Bought this "CD" on cassette tape when it originally released.
I'm happy to see it's now on CD. Nice original songwriting with coarse, butt kicking delivery. Fans of SRV would probably like this. Give it a listen.

good cd. omar's deep growling voice, the rough edge to the delta-meets-texas blues, some hard driving songs. they have their mojo working on this disc.

I recall the summer of 1987, working in a record store. It was my first part time job! I was exposed to this record...yes we had vinyl and cassettes back then. Cd's were just being introduced. I liked this album so much because it was so consistent in the quality of the songs on the album no "Dogs" all the songs were great and still are. When I started swicthing as much of my music collection as I could to Cd's this particular item was a must have. I paid a little more than I would have liked to, but it was worth it in the end. Long story short. This item stands the test of time. I highly reccommend it.

Good on CD, Better Live,

I also bought this on cassette early on, and then got to see them live in Dallas in like '89, don't recall where but some here today, gone tomorrow bar in Deep Ellum. Guys put on a great show, and gave 110% effort straight down the line. I was convinced Omar was going to have a coronary by the 3rd encore.
