5.0 out of 5 stars A Treat For John Waite Fans!
I don't know what to say about this album (CD) except, it's great. John's voice has never sounded better or more sincere than it does on NYC Girl, the guitar work on Godhead is great and, if you like anything from this genre, this is for you. I can't remeber the last time I heard an album that was so good and complete from start to finish as this one. Why the record...

Look, I love John waite. I've see him in concert when ever he is nearby in Jersey. I went to see him at Great Adventure in the pouring rain when there were only FIVE people there, and when he toured with Journey. I love his music.

But this album is a dissapointment. Not the music mind you, the album. The new/cover/remake songs are great, wonderful, can't say enough about them. But what's up with the 5 songs from Figure in a Landscape?!!? I don't get it. There is absolutely no need for these songs here. Those that are going to buy this album, I am sure, already own Landscape.

I would have prefered John stay in the studio, even if it took another year or so, and produce a FULL album of all new songs. Or at the very least, release the new songs on a small album at a lesser price.

It has at least two radio worthy singles if not more. PLEASE do yourself a favor and give this a listen, you won't be sorry!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rereleased, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Hard Way (Audio CD)
5 of the songs on this CD are from John Waite, Figure in a Landscape, which is an excellent poppy album. If this album was promoted properly, I'm sure most of these songs would be hits.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Hard Way Is Fantastic., September 29, 2004
This review is from: Hard Way (Audio CD)
I recently saw him in concert where he did 3 of these songs on this disc and they just plain rocked, his voice never faltered. On this cd (produced by John) there are 5 remixed or redone tracks from his "figure in a landscape" disc, and they are all good. There is a blend of rock tracks and slow insightful songs typical of the way that only john can write them and sing them. The mix is typical of his past 3 discs; his vocals are right upfront on the mix front and center (right where they should be), giving his albums a personal feeling. After almost 30 years he has not lost a bit of his edge, he can still rock, he can still write pop songs and slower ballads, here he covers allot of ground here too. He is an under rated LEGEND in a business full of performers that don't even write their on music. With lyrics he is a poet, he is emotional, and after meeting him in person (oh yes!!) I can say he is for REAL. The Hard Way is the PROOF.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album John Gets Better With Age., July 11, 2008
This review is from: Hard Way (Audio CD)
He's just keeps getting better with age and by the way I am 30 and I have been a fan Of John Waite since "Missing You" and This album blew me away. Oh my god his song "New York City Girl" is just stellar and his unplugged spin on his #1 hit "Missing You" was a treat I have seen him live several times he's amazing and electric on stage. And I had to privilege to have to spoken to him on the phone twice. (through my connections.) He's a true Gentleman. You will not regret buying this CD its just stunning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Waite and See, April 18, 2005
This review is from: Hard Way (Audio CD)
I have known about John Waite through the group Bad English. The "The Hard Way" is a bit more mellow. This is a good singer-songwriter kind of album. There's some rock songs like "The Hard Way" and "Godhead" which are good, but the harder songs on this album are not the best songs in my opinion. Seeing John Waite live he did a rendition of a Bob Dylan tune called "Girl From The North Country" which I wasn't big on, but I have to admit that he sang that song beautifully. Listening to songs like"Masterpiece Of Loneliness" and "New York City Girl" made me realize that John Waite has very good lyrics that has imagery that carries over beautiful melodies. I initially bought this album because of John Waite's singing, and was captured instead by his musicianship more than anything. Not to mention that their is a bonus track of his famous song "Missing You" done acoustically which was nice. For me though by the time the c.d reached the end I did not need to hear "Missing You" cause his new songs are great and have a different vibe which stand on their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Collection From Start to Finish, October 9, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hard Way (Audio CD)
This CD is a real treat. The songs are interesting, well produced and diverse. The sound quality is much improved on the remastered treasures taken from Mr. Waite's recent independent releases. There are a few strong new songs as well, such as the title track and the cover of Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country". On the acoustic version of "Missing You": the vocals are as penetrating as on the 1984 classic with a more contemporary arrangement. This is the type of disk you enjoy from the first note to the last. It would make a thoughtful gift. It showcases an artist with a long career who continues to get better and better with age.
