One of the best live albums out there, December 29, 2000

I own every Umbra album and CD single, but this was the first one I received (a gift from my friend, Volkmar in Germany). It holds a special place in my collection.
I'm not usually much for live albums. In fact, I normally avoid them. Most sound tinny and hollow as if they were recorded inside a 55 gallon drum barrel and the background noise from the crowd annoys me. The Hard Years changed all that. This album has the cleanest sound I've ever heard used in a live recording. There is none of the hollow echo one usually associates with live albums. The songs are as flawless as the originals, but with the distinct difference of a live performance. All the electricity, none of the noise. If you have ever contemplated owning a live album, this is the one to buy. It goes without saying I'm a huge fan of Umbra and perhaps that makes my opinion less than objective, but I do not think so. I've seen them perform these live - they are as flawless in person as they are on CD. Engineered to perfection, in every way!
